Saw a CZ chambered in 300 Win Short Magnum yesterday. I didn't know they made such a chambering in a CZ. The rifle is different compared to the CZ550s I have seen. It had a wing style safety three position, and the bolt handle was different. There were probably other differences, but I didn't look at it a long time.

What's the story on those rifles? Are they something special? I'm just wondering about it.

They are MRC rifles, I'm not sure if CZ bought the actions or MRC made them for CZ. At one point they were being dumped on the market for about $500. I kick myself for passing on one.

IIRC they were made for CZ by MRC under contract. The MSRP was for around $800 and they were chambered in the 270, 7mm, and 300 wsm rounds. They were only made for one year. What I had heard was that MRC was unhappy with the MSRP since a barrelled action minus walnut from them was around $1100 at the time. So the contract was ended.

I have one in 300 wsm that I had picked up for $600 about two years ago. If I can find another one for around the same price I will scarf it up in a heartbeat. They are beautiful guns.

Well, looks like maybe I found a prize. The price as I remember was around $550. Humm ---

Maybe I'll go back for a second look, maybe a close look.

I had a MRC action once, in the short magnum bolt face, and I believe I paid around $600 for the action. As I remember I had to take a loss to sell it.

Anyway, I have been intentionally avoiding thinking about the WSM, and just about convinced myself that it's a bypass cartridge for me.

But for a good deal - well that's different - maybe.

I want to know of your experience with feeding in the MRC action. I have heard some fellows were far less than satisfied. I know the action I bought had some issues, and I could see the quality wasn't what I expected.

I saw one a year ago at the Gander Mountain in Kingston, NY- left it due to chambering.

The feeding on mine is none issue. Every round feeds fine, not great, but fine as long as you don't take your time doing it. The CZ model 3's are definately of a better finish quality than the regular MRC actions sold to gunsmith's. The whole idea MRC had with their own actions was to let the gunsmith or owner finish the action to their disired level. I guess the new actions now come finished and polished up nicely.

I have one in 300WSM stainless wood. I like it. Looks good, shoots good and feels pretty good. If I ever come across another one, I will snatch it up in a heart beat. I have had no feeding problems whatsoever.

Kabluewy,

A lot would depend on if the rifle is right for you looks, fit and price wise. I had a couple of MRC actions on the start up for a low price and they were rough. I sent the first one back and sold its replacement.

The best rifle to my taste in the WSM's is the Kimber Montana. Of course they go for over a $thousand!

If the action is not rough and its a good price new guns are fun. Good luck.

Get the 'power' or optic that your eye likes instead of what someone else says.

When we go to the doctor they ask us what lens we like!

Do that with your optics.

These were very nice rifles. They had a different model number, they weren't 550's...I want to say it had the #3 in it somewhere...I've looked for them used, never see one. Guess those who were lucky enough to pick one up are pretty pleased with them

If you think every possible niche has been filled already, thank a wildcatter!
