Has anyone tried Reloader 25 or Retumbo with the 200gr. Accubond bullet in the 300 win mag?

I only have a 24 inch barrel and most loads in the Nosler book tell me I'm only going to be in the 2850fps range and I'd like to try to be over 2900's or more if can be done but I saw they didn't list Reloader 25 or Retumbo.

I have plenty of Reloader 22 to play with along with H1000 but I figured 25 and Retumbo would work the best.

Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks Jay-

I might have to try some IMR powders now. I've never shot much IMR just Reloader and Hodgden.

Thanks.

Hey Magnum

I too am searching for the best load for the 200 gr Accubond in my 300 win mag. Started with 6 loads of H1000

77.8 gr - 2886 fps - 1 1/4"
78.1 gr - 2882 fps - 1 1/8"
78.4 gr - 2896 fps - 7/8"
78.7 gr - 2899 fps - 5/8"
79.0 gr - 2916 fps - 1 3/8"
79.3 gr - 2900 fps - 1 1/8"

Then I tried RL22

72.5 gr - 2924 fps - 5/8"
72.8 gr - 2919 fps - 1 1/2"
73.1 gr - 2928 fps - 1"
73.4 gr - 2948 fps - 1 1/8"
73.7 gr - 2957 fps - 1 5/8"
74.0 gr - 2961 fps - 1 1/4"

Since the best group with H1000 was around 2900 fps and the best group with RL22 was at the lowest velocity of 2924 fps, I got to thinking that maybe lower loadings of RL22 that would give a velocity of around 2900 fps might be the accuracy node. So I have these loaded up with RL22 that I haven't shot yet

71.3 gr
71.6 gr
71.9 gr
72.2 gr
72.5 gr
72.8 gr

If you try RL25 let me know what happens. I have a bottle of it on the shelf that I haven't found a use for yet. H4831 is pretty slow, it might be good. I don't know about Retumbo.

Thanks and I don't really want to rub it in, but I have 3 in my safe right now. A 30-06 that a friend bought 6 months ago for $800.00 off Gunbroker, a 338 win mag that I bought on Gunbroker last December for $800.00 and my 300 win mag which I bought off a friend 1 1/2 years ago for.....you guessed it, $800.00.

A 7 mag would be nice in this gun

http://www.gunsamerica.com/guns/976672885.htm

it would feel like shooting a 270 in a regular gun

Here's a 300 win mag, got a muzzle brake though

The 338 win mag is my favorite. The Mato is a good one for that caliber since it has controlled round feed, a straight stock and a fairly heavy barrel. If you ever see one in this caliber pull out all the stops and buy it. All of them have lots of room in the detachable magazine for loading to the lands.

Magnum61,
I have had excellent results using the 200 gr. Accubond from a 24" Hart barrel. The load is from Hodgdon manual.I used Win.brass,Fed GM215M primer,84grs. Retumbo, seated bullet as long as the magazine would allow.3.385".This load is HEAVILY compressed.Velocity ran 2962 fps.and accuracy AVERAGED 1/2" or less.Have also used 72 grs. of RL-22 with good results.FWIW.

Have you tried 7828 with the 200?

Also you might find H4831 better than you think in your rifle......it's made here in Australia as 2213SC. A friend uses it in his 300 Win with heavy bullets and it shoots bloody well.

Thanks for the tips guys. It almost sounds like I'm underestimating what I might get out of this load but we wont know until I get some bullets down range.

There is some great information so narrow down where I might start.

Accubonds and H 1000 are the best combo I have found for my 300 win. Either 180's or 200's both well under 1" MOA

I LOVE teh Accubonds. I discussed this in the Trophy Room forum with my 2 deer- WT and Mulie.

Tried some 200gr. TSX and Accubonds in my 300WM (Sako m75SS) and a buddy's Ruger LS. 71.0gr of RL22 with Winchester brass and Federal #215 Magnum Primers produced under 1" groups-never measured them, but they were a very tight cloverleaf.

I'm getting great results with RL22 with 180gr. Accubonds @ 74.0gr - under 1/2". Next 0.5gr higher and lower produced 1"+ groups. All groups are 5 shot groups.

My 300WM likes the 180gr. and thats all I ever shot out of this rifle- shooting at elk, moose, WT and Mulies, bear. The way I go is when I'm after elk, and see a trophy Mulie or WT, its going down. Never really had the need for a 200gr. But I'm going to try more out at the range. My opinion is that the 180gr is the best bullet for the 300WM.

Have not had the chance to reload any 300WM with Retumbo, but Retumbo sure works awesome in my 270WSM with 140gr. Accubonds.

I'll report my next test of RL22 with 200gr. bullets, next time out to the range.
