Sounds like a great project you have going! In recent years I've used Bartlein, 2 Pac Nor, Shilen, McGowen and just ordered a Lilja. All five of the barrels are extremely accurate and I am fantastically happy with them, anxious to get the Lilja to see how it shoots. I like thin profile lightweight barrels and mine really shoot. My point is all the major barrel makers are making a fantastic product right now and I doubt you could pick any barrel maker of good reputation and be un happy.

I was a hardcore Krieger fan but bought a Bartlein in a group buy for a great deal and I'm very impressed with it. Like Snellstrom says, the modern barrel makers turn out great products. They have all the advantages of the increased quality of alloys, tooling and machines and are giving us the greatest barrels ever made. I've had several rifles re-barreled using Benchmark barrels and they have all been very accurate.

My favorites have been Krieger, Rock Creek, Shilen, and Lilja.

Anything made in Wisconsin. My last barrel was a Brux. "though the will of the majority is in all cases to prevail, that will to be rightful must be reasonable; that the minority possess their equal rights, which equal law must protect, and to violate would be oppression." ---Thomas Jefferson

If you are starting with a Model 70 in .300 WSM shoot that one first. The last one I had was so accurate that I wouldn't have wanted to change the barrel.
