when you can make that stock rifle shoot and look just as good. Model 70 Sporter PF in 270 in a custom painted Featherweight stock by Ric Bin of 24 Hour Campfire, Black T coated barreled action by Walter Birdsong and Ti fluted bolt by Karl Kampfeld of Kampfeld Customs.

I haven't measured the shots but i would say I could get 3 together about the size of a silver dollar. I use Federal Premium NP's in 150 grain. I wish I could afford a true custom but getting out in the mountains and woods is more important to me. Thanks for the compliments too!

And the money you spent makeing it look cool could have bought a custom gun probably.

No it wouldn't have, total cost of the upgrades was less than $500. If you can find a custom rifle for that plus the cost of what I paid for the rifle, which was about $400 then i'd gladly buy one. Show me where I can buy a custom rifle with this stuff done to it for under $1000 and i'll gladly buy it. And just for your info, I didn't do that stuff to it to make it look "cool" even though it does look cool, there's a reason for those mods.

Sorry I did not meen to insult. I guess you did do things to lighten the rifle up. The custom paint jobs I have seen cost as much as a good composite stock and all they do is look good. You must have gotten a great deal. For me the cost of fluting a bolt goes a long way to the cost of a good trigger but then looseing a few ounces is not important to me.

M70, nice rifle, looks like you got functionality for your type of hunting and that is what is important. It looks nice to boot!

Enjoy and good hunting.

Jacobite, I did not feel that you insulted me at all but thought I would clarify my position with this rifle. I've had it for a long time and am the original owner, I don't think I could ever sell it either. Thanks for all the good words guys.

Yougo mauser action take off ruger barrel,
Nice looking wood stock drilled and tapped safty set up and bolt bent, timney trigger.
No checkering on the stock. inexpensive parts but It is hand assembeld and fitted by a pro who knows what he is doing...tj3006

Nobody, it's all about want.

I have a 338-06 that is done almost the exact same way. 700 action, Birdsong finish, McMillan flat gray stock. It is one of my rifles I will never sell.

I can do one better, a plain jane factory Remington 700 SS in 270 Win that has been there done that. Shoots great, has never let me down.
The only thing I did to this rifle is trigger adjustment and file the bolt handle a little to clear the ultra low rings. Never for sale.

Then I have my custom Kimber in 270 Win that I picked up yesterday. Beautiful walnut stock, rust blueing. Incredible rifle, work of art. easy on the eyes.

Three very different rifles, varying degrees of investment, but I wouldn't trade any of them.

It's all about want, not need.

Whether your decisions were based on need, desire, function, budget or priorities, what you have is a rifle that you had customised-modified to your level of satisfaction. Some would say that you have spent money you didnt need to, others would say you didnt spend enough or do enough.
As long as you are happy with the cost, function and end result, thats all that really matters.
Yours is an appealling rifle as it stands.
I had top end mauser floating in my hands and there might fine rigs when put together well, but at the same time, one of my favourite rifles was an old rem700BDL.222rem(the older ones with the basic diamond point checkering)Its bluing was worn, had a crappy bridge mount, pitted barrel, but did 1/2 groups with Kmart ammo.... I was satisfied!

Custom comes in many forms. That Sir is a custom, and very well done. Nice rifle. Finish is changed, stock is changed, bolt is modifed, trigger is modified, all to YOUR specs. Only thing left to changed that I can see is the safety and the barrel and if the gun shoots and the safety works as it should, no need to mess with them, even if you could afford to buy a truck load of rifles, hand built from the ground up.

What kind of mod do I need to do to the safety? I've had no issues with it since i've owned it. I also adjusted the trigger for acleaner crisper break.

Rem721, I love sheep hunting and i do whatever I can to cut weight, even if that means cutting 1 or 2 ounces off the bolt and thats why I did it.

Who the fuck would want to change a model 70 safety? If anything, get it timed, but that's hardly not needed, unless you're anal.

M70Nut,

The rifle looks good! You mind sending me some info on the bolt fluting? Was that local or out of state? I got three rifles I'd like to have that done to.
