Hi, I couldn't resist today; after so much praise, I've bought my first CZ, a new 550 cal 9.3x62. The price was tempting and the rifle is nice. Anyway, the trigger is poor, so, I've ordered a Timney replacement. My question concerns the barrel, that is extensively in contact with the foreend. Did you free float it on yours or not?

The factory set trigger was poor??? Have not had that problem on mine (3 550's, 416, 375, 9.3) Never found the need to free float, these either , all shoot terrifically. I hear these things on AR and other forums-- Guess I'm lucky-- No problems with mine. DuggaBoye-O NRA-Life Whittington-Life TSRA-Life DRSS DSC HSC SCI

I hope to be able to explain it correctly; my complaint is about the "direct" trigger, that is very long and has a lot of creep before breaking, while the "set" is better, but I don't care for the set, I want a good direct trigger.

wild - Had my smith spend a few minutes with both triggers on my CZ550FS in 9.3 X 62 and both are absolutely great now. Larry Sellers SCI Life Member

Surprised that the trigger is poor, set trigger? Mine had a little grit feel in standard mode, about perfect in "set" mode. I stoned it just a little bit. No need to float the barrel or do anything with the bedding. Bolt was a bit stiff but loosened upon use. I'd shoot it a bit before doing anything else, they really are quite good right out of the box.

Ii agree that the trigger is not grand. Is useable but not wonderful. The Timney will be better. I have not had to float my CZ. I did float the Douglas barrel on my VZ.24 in 9,3x62. It's a "utility" rifle in a cheap Fajen's synthetic stock so it got bedded and floated. Shoots ragged one clusters at 100 yards with 286 gr Noslers if I am doing a good job. My CZ is not as good but I find ~ 1 MOA to be perfectly adequate for hunting. Mike -------------- DRSS, Womper's Club, NRA Life Member/Charter Member NRA Golden Eagles ... 7x64 CZ 550 Lux benefitted from free-floating AFTER bedding the tang and action. (I shimmed it up where a pressure point would be in a Remchester, then removed the shim after bedding cured.) 'Smith adjusts my CZ triggers for 3-pound pull. By the time that happens the set trigger function is defeated. Works great! _______________________

I bedded my CZ 550 ,and floated the 9.3x62 FS foward of the 2nd recoil lug .. with 250 gr bullets @ 2600 fps or 285 gr @ 2400 fps I appreciated having the extra recoil lug .... .If it can,t be grown , its gotta be mined ....

When I bought my used 9.3x62 American last year, I noticed as my load workup progressed thorugh each session, the POI would move up. I just chalked it up to differing loads until I settled on my Ramshot Big Game load inconjunction with the Nosler 286 gr Partition at 2500 fps; same load as John Barsness. In the process of sighting it in for my Alaska Grizzly hunt I noticed POI kept moving up as the barrel heated up. I took it to my 'smith and he indicated their was quite a bit of upward pressure throughout the entire barrel channel. He FF it and the problem stopped. I adjusted the trigger myself using the instructions downloaded from the CZ web site and it was great; for me! I didn't shoot my grizz but as many of you know I did shoot my 62" A/Y moose @ 15 yds with my Ruger NMBH in 45LC. It did bloody a fine Utah spike a month later before I sold it. Alan

My 9.3X62 550FS was well bedded with the barrel free floating right out of the box. The trigger was good; slight adjustment to the pull weight was all I did. Accuracy has been adequate with any loads tried and great with its favorite loads.

Thanks for your hints; I've swiftly tested the CZ and it shoot VERY well out of the box. For the moment no need for gunsmithing; I could cancel my order of the Timney trigger, I will have my smith to carefully adjust the original one.

The original trigger can be made into a very nice one. Whatever floats your boat.
