Life is full of choices. I got a new .270, and need dies for it. I want to load for accuracy (obviously), so which dies make a more accruate handload? Neck zize? FL? Match grade? X-sizer ect?? ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- If the 270 won't do it the .338 will, if the 338 won't I can't afford the hunt!

Mod - maybe you should move this to Reloading. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- If the 270 won't do it the .338 will, if the 338 won't I can't afford the hunt!

We really need to know about the rifle. There will be a difference. Free men should not be subjected to permits, paperwork and taxation in order to carry any firearm. NRA Benefactor

We all know that a set of "match" dies will run $100+, so the question now becomes -do you have the rifle and sights capable of taking advantage of such ammunition?

I believe accuracy has more to do with HOW you use your dies than with WHAT make of dies you use. Perhaps this is not true for the benchrest boys, but obviously, if you are loading for the .270, you are NOT one of these guys! I have used Redding, Forster, RCBS, Lyman, Lyman 310 tool dies, C & H, Herter's, Pacific, and yes, even Lee dies over the years. ALL are quite capable of loading ammunition that will shoot under 1 MOA in a precision rifle. Of these, I prefer Redding, then Forster, then RCBS dies, in that order. It may be just me, but I think the RCBS dies I've purchased recently are made BETTER than the older ones I have. "Bitte, trinks du nicht das Wasser. Dahin haben die Kuhen gesheissen."

Its funny because my intent is actually to make the most accurate handloads for a factory rifle. I got a HELLUVA SMOKIN deal on a rem XCR. I don't know yet how it shoots, I'm in the process of gathering components for it. I should have asked the question in a more general way: for a factory rifle, is it worth using neck sizing or match grade dies to try to maximize the accuracy of my handloads? ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- If the 270 won't do it the .338 will, if the 338 won't I can't afford the hunt!

I like Wilson dies and seaters but you would need an arbor press for them. The only easy day is yesterday!

I use Redding Full Length Bushing dies set hard against the ram to take out ALL SLOP in the linkage train...no breaking over the top...and Forster Ultra seaters. I don't use any type of benchrest die for ANY factory chambered rifle...you don't gain anything except a flat wallet. To get the most out of these dies you have to follow the rest of the "benchrest" proceedures except not as anal...i.e., uniform the cases as to weight, length, neck thickness uniformity, flash holes uniformed as to depth and flash hole burrs removed. If you're not willing to do these proceedures or take time with your reloading processes just by any cheap set of dies and have fun, they will reload your 270 to hunting accuracy without any problem. Do a search on all the forums you can find and you will get swamped with information dealing with reloading. Best site I've found for premium reloading informion is 6mmBR, http://www.6mmbr.com/index.html. Start there. Other sites having to do with long range target or hunting or varmint hunting. 'Njoy

I've moved to Wilson sizers and seaters for best accuracy, or custom made dies of the Wilson design. They do deliver accuracy. Don

I use FL Redding and have produced very accurate reloads with both the sizer and seater dies from Redding. Ted Kennedy's car has killed more people than my guns
