Neither of these bullets really lends themselves to up close high velocity hunting. They are medium velocity bullets and perform quite well under those circumstances. That isnt to say they wont do the job up close...but if you hit heavy bone...look out...there is a considerable chance both will expand rather violently and damage serious quantities of meat. Accuracy isnt even a question here...both bullets are VERY capable of excellent accuracy. I tried the sierras in my 7-08AI. <.5moa accuracy. The NBT should hold true with most of the other offerings in that line...very accurate as well. My bullet choices differ slightly tho...7mm...140Barnes TSX or XLC...140 Nosler AB...30 cal...165 or 168 Barnes XLC or TSX...165 Swift Scirocco. The X is always my first choice with the afore mentioned bonded core bullets bringing up a very close second.

Well now, that is interesting, because, quite honestly, where I hunt the likely range to a deer is within 50 yards, although I must be prepared for shots along a firebreak out to 300 yards. My choice of rifles are a 7x57 and either a 308 or 30-06... Perhaps I should just use a partition. But I have this itch to develop a super accurate hunting load, regardless of what I give up in velocity, and am thinking that the Sierra HPBT or Nosler Ballistic Tips might prove to be better shooters. Under no circumstances I am sure would muzzle velocity exceed 2700 fps in any of these rifles, more like 2600 fps for the 7x57 and 308...

For thoughs cartridges a Sierra is perfect. I have used the HPBT Gameking in my 308/3006 and 300 win. I really like it in the 3006 at about 2800. Close up your fine and at 300 yards you wouldn't have any problem.

As long as I can afford premium and super premium bullets that is what I will use..For too many years I had to deal with bullet failure from time to time...that extra 15 cents per deer is not a problem with me....

I have no use for Sierras or Silvertips on game larger than deer, and don't use them on deer either come to think of it.
