| I used my .340 to take a very large Kodiak Bear. One shot though the neck at 25 yards knocked him down for good. I put another shot in him to put him out of his misery. I used a load of 85 grains of H4831 with a 250 gr. Nosler Partition bullet. The velocity out of my West German Mark 5 was 2730 FPS. The most accurate load would be the above with a 250 gr. Sierra BT. Now, if you want just under 3000 FPS with a 250 gr. bullet use 90 grs. of IMR 7828. |

| I have owned and shot extensively a .340 Wby, in Weatherby Sporter model, for 12 years. It got me a huge Moose in the middle of the Farewell Burn in Alaska. RL-19 and RL-22 have been my best powders with Fed 215M primers. Bullets in North Fork, Nosler Partition and Barnes have served me well. The 240 North Fork being ideal in my opioion. Good shooting.

| I own the 338-378 but do love the 340. You can find all kinds of information out at this website.Ken....

| I've had 3 340s. They work great. Look for 3100 with 225s and 2900ish with 250s. |
