My primers fall out made by Winchester when loading my 300 Win. Mag. If I use Federal primers they hold. I never heard that win primers are smaller then Federal. Does enyone else have this problem?

Yeah, I have had the same problems. Some lots of Winchester primers are undersized. Especially the new ones that are not plated any longer. The new gold colored primers are smaller in some of the early lots and are a real pain in the ass!!! Like you, I have had no such problems with Federal primers. R Flowers

It's not just confined to WW. I have found there is a diameter diff. among most of the manuf. Federal being on the large side & Rem. on the small. I have some RWS brass w/ very tight primer pockets & RP are the only ones that fit w/o crushing. LIFE IS NOT A SPECTATOR'S SPORT!

jro45 ----- One of the many reasons I don't use anything but Federal primers for all my reloading. There are enough variables with everything else, and my records showed 90% of the time the Federals were most accurate anyway. Good shooting. phurley

What kind of brass are you using? I have had experience with loose primers with federal brass but no prob with winchester brass. That is using federal primers too.

I had exaclty the same problem. In my experience any brass that is loaded and fired with a Federal primer will not hold a Winchester primer tightly. There must be a size difference. My loads are not hot, and I can continue to use the same brass for several loadings as long as I use a Fed primer.

I also have winchester primers that go in too easy. resently using Identical loads except for the cases, one lot Win, one lot Rem allthe win case blew primers and not the Rems. ;not even close. The Vihtavuori stainles primers were like a German virgin(Goutundtite). Some new Graf brass accomodated tight winchester primers that were marginal in Winchester cases. This problem has been bouncing around for a year and a half that I know of and it's been true of the WLRs as well as the WLRMs.Seem to happen when they came out with their brass colored primers. roger Old age is a high price to pay for maturity!!! I shoot a lot of .223 cases, Winchester cases exclusively. I find that the newer brass colored Winchester primers and also Remington primers fall out after about four reloads. But old plated Winchester primers and Federal primers are good for at least 11 reloads. I have not shot enough CCI benchrest primers to form a conclusion yet, but they're plated. Indy Life is short. So why am I not surprised? This is one more instance of Winchester not worrying one little bit about the handloader. They never have, and are never going to. Look at how often their powders disappear, never to be heard from again. It is almost as if they put components on the market as an afterthought, just to make a few extra bucks. Sorry for the problems, guys, but just face it: they just don't care about us...

LOL. Good one, Roger. The analogies that follow (yours above) can be best left for another day though. Through personal experience I can trace the problem back three years. That is how long I have been using CCIBR primers. It is still beyond my belief that a company that makes primers and brass will produce primers that do not fit properly in THEIR OWN BRASS.
