I have a Win. model 670A 30-06 that if I recall was made for only a few years in late 60s-early 70s. Recently I spotted a Mod 670 that looks identical to mine. The dealer had no clue to the difference between 670 vs. 670A. Can anyone enlighten me? Always got room for another '06 in the house even though it's a 'dead cartridge'. As a side note, I've yet to meet an '06 that doesn't love 52 gr of 4064 with 150 gr bullets, just a matter of finding the sweet spot for seating depth.

Ya got me. I was unaware that there was a 670A, but since you have one, that would appear to be a settled question. In regard to the 670, it had a hardwood (likely Beech) stock, impressed checkering, low luster metal finish, blind magazine (a la Remington 700 ADL), and plastic trigger guard (if I remember correctly). The action, trigger, and barrel were identical, except for finish, to the regular Model 70's. Subsequent to the 670 (and maybe 670A?), Winchester brought out the 70A, which had a walnut stock, but blind mag, as their "budget priced" gun. If you find a difference in the 670 and 670A, please post and let the rest of us know! Something in the deep recesses of my memory makes me think that one had a "rifle" length and the other had a "carbine" length barrel, but this is likely just the result of the cobwebs of old age and not a factual memory.

My Ranger (model # unknown) has a hardwood stock, no checkering, steel floorplate, alloy trigger guard, and featherweight barrel with sights. M.O.A. rifle. Accuracy shocked my instructor at a shooting school where we engaged targets under hunting conditions out to 500 yards. Best $229 I ever spent! Tanzania in 2006!
