Just looking at Federal's web site today and saw this new offer. This little pill zips right along at 3500fps.

Has anyone shot it yet? Went to both Cabelas and my local sportsmans today and they do not have it yet. Getting ready for a mt goat this fall and wondering how this would do?

I would think that would be a little to light. Confused Whats wrong with 150's?

I tried to load some 130's for a friend of mine in 300 WM and they would not group well. Could have been his gun or him though.

Jon, I'm shooting some in handloads in a 300 WSM and the accuracy is excellent. They are clocking about 3410 in my 23" barrel. This is a mid range charge weight of powder and WLRM primers, Norma cases.

I wouldn't hesitate for a second to hunt any sheep on the planet including a Marco Polo with that load. It should be plenty flat shooting, which can be a benefit when hutning sheep. I've found the recoil to be very minimal, and while that isn't a huge deal to me, it's nice when that is part of the mix too...

I'd try some in your rig for sure.

Good shooting--Don

If they group well in his rifle he should use them.

Basically what ever makes you feel better, because being honest much of what people are so massively opinionated about is based more on emotion (how they FEEL about it) rather than on any objective factor. That isn't to say they can't spout factoids at length, but that's all they are "factoids", "FACT" would imply that they acknowledge that there IS relevant contrary data to their position.

But I'm sure if we wait an hour or two, several of the "heavy bullet mafia" founding members will pipe up and tell him that anything lighter than a 200 in a 30cal will bounce off. LOL Smiler

I do agree with the question "what's wrong with a 150gr?"

particularly if that 150gr is either an Accubond or a partition....

Jon , I shoot the 150 gr tsx in my 300WSM . I have taken serveral deer with it all one shot kills . I think the new tipped bullet should be even more on the money than these. I will be trying them this coming fall myself. I know what you are thinking why change ? Easy answer I am a sucker for new bullets , but they should shoot better. I have never hunted goats before , but the 130 gr bullets seem a little lite top me. But would bet money they will be OK if you do your part.

my $.02

Are 130 grain 30 cal to light?
depends...

I've killed deer and hogs DRT with 85 gr partitons out of a 240 weatherby, as well as 100 gr partitions out of a 257 weatherby. The 100 gr partitions are clocking along at approx 3650 fps. I wouldn't ague that Weatherby was on to something with his idea tha speed kills. So I have no doubt that a 130 gr 30 caliber x bullet will be adequate to kill deer and hogs with proper bullet placement.

Now whether the light weight for caliber tipped tsx's will group, we'll just have to see.
I for one will be trying a box in a couple of calibers

You guys hit it, I am a sucker for new technology. Luckily, I am new to this and still learning. I am not a ballistics expert, but I highly doubt 130gr, with a 30 diameter, cooking along at that velocity, is too light for a mt. goat. As long as you get any type of bullet expansion, I would imagine that the energy would knock him into the next day.

What got my attention is that the round is over 10% faster and well over that in energy and flatness(sp?) of the 165gr. I will probably stick w/ the 180 TSX, cause my gun loves-um, but this is an interesting topic as I learn. For you handloaders, is there a point where the bullet is to light for the 300WSM?

I have been shooting the 130 TTSX bullets as handloads out of my Sako 85 in 300 WSM at a mild 3400. They group about .6 MOA at 300 yds, and the two deer I shot at 150 and 180 yds about 5 seconds apart hated them. Bang-Flop. Low recoil too. I kinda like them.
