In fairness to my 325 WSM Montana I still haven't been able to shoot it on a decent day with my normal rests etc.. The first day I shot it the wind was blowing 20-40mph (literally) but I had to shoot it anyway and the results weren't that good. The second time I was at a different range and had to shoot off of a blanket layed over my pistol bag on a extremely hot day with some wind. I never could get really steady and it was hot and windy so though the rifle didn't shoot that good I figured it probably wasn't just the rifle. Today I finally at least got to shoot the rifle when it wasn't over 95deg and the wind was less than 20MPH. I still had to shoot on top of a blanket on my pistol bag but I used a sling to help steady and finally lightened the trigger enough to get a good consistant release. This was my first group with the lightened trigger: I was shooting the Winchester Supreme 200gr Accubonds. If they will keep shooting this way I may not need to reload too much for it. The 7 WSM Kimber I had shot as good or better with Federal Premium Accubonds as anything I handloaded, this one may be the same. Earlier groups were mostly horizontal on the windy days, and earlier groups of today seemed to want to put 2 together and then have a 3rd out of the group, lightening the trigger I think really helped here. It could be that the barrel is breaking in but I really think that the reason it was shooting 1-2" before and much better now was more to do with conditions and lack of a steady rest. I can't wait to shoot it some more on a decent day with my front rest and rear bag, it's starting to act like it wants to shoot after all......................DJ ....Remember that this is all supposed to be for fun!..................

Is that your first Kimber Montana? The only 325 WSM that I have shot was a year old M70 with the rubber where checkering goes. The owner was sighting in for a plains game hunt and was getting groups in the the 1 to 2" range at 100 yds with 180 gr factory ammo. I got to fire the last two shots that he had and it made a small group but that might have been luck. The rifle turned out to be lucky anyhow as he winged one at some antelope that was well over 400 and hit it in the foot. The beast fell and stayed down and he got up close and finished it. That proves the 325 WSM is lucky. I had my 8400 270 WSM Montana apart just now and I was counting the guard screw revolutions from being tight to when the threads let go from the receiver. Both the front and the rear don't seem to have been bottoming out on the ends of the screws or their threads. This is the second time that I have checked that. I am also going to shoot it without the magazine box in it as it may be bedded on that. That may be the second time around for the mag. box check as well. This is preliminary to the next step which will be to cut a new crown. It has too many shots thru it to send back for accuracy. Join the NRA

Savage99, yea it's my first Montana. All of my other Kimbers have pretty wood on them. I'd of probably bought a wood 325 if I'd seen one first, but I guess I had to try a Montana someday....................DJ ....Remember that this is all supposed to be for fun!..................

Does that rifle jump out of your hands? Mine does off the bench with just holding the pistol grip. Sometimes I shoot other guns 'hand held' of the bench with my forearm on the forward rest. Can't recall if I have shot the 270 WSM that way. It's accuracy is good enough for big game and thats not good enough Join the NRA

Savage, Usually when shooting the 8400's I'll grip the forend behind the front bag of my Front rest and making sure that the swivel doesn't contact the bag. And I use a tall rabbit ears in the rear. Today I had a Mexican Blanket covering my Pistol bag as a front rest and wadded up the back part of the blanket for a rear rest. I had a sling on the rifle and used my left hand gripping the sling in the rear while pushing the blanket enough to keep the butt up. Yea, ridiculous bench technique but it was the steadiest I could get with the materials at hand. It didn't jump near as bad as I thought it would but I'm gravitationally challenged and when I lean into something it usually stays put...... ...........DJ ....Remember that this is all supposed to be for fun!..................

When a rifle shoots well it's easy. This K. 270 WSM has never been a star but I still like it. I made a bet with a guy that we would both lose weight. Its a cooperative bet for our own good. I started the bet at 197# and went up to 200 a couple of days ago! I just have to cut out the overeating. The high here today was 68F and we have had almost 10" of rain this month. Prdator, Right now I'm thinking of taking 2 rifles on our next sortie against the pigs. I'll take the 9,3x62 if it's halfway nice out and the 325 for when it rains or we have to crawl through nasty bush. Might be fun to "borrow" LB's 500 Jeffrey to take along for kicks though........................DJ ....Remember that this is all supposed to be for fun!..................
