Has anybody tried a stock from this company? I tracked them down. They are not all that far from my home. I'm thinking about stopping by the factory on the way to Colorado for a visit and hopefully to pick up my rebarreled 270 WSM. I'd like to know something about fit, finish and durability so I know what questions to ask, if they'll take the time to visit with me. On paper, it seems to me, to be a good way to stock a rifle. Anybody?

i'm afraid that I've never heard of them. Do they have a web site? - Dan

Not really. I found a phone number but little else. Brownell is seeling thier stocks. Got my Cabelas shooting catolog yesterday. They list the stocks for sale. Not cheap. $355.00. The stocks look good and come with a decelorator either cheek piece or straight. The guts is what interests me. The bedding is an aluminum block clear to the front swivel with a rod through the wrist. That seems to be about the best method of bedding I've come across. I'd like to know more before I buy. But if necessary, I'll buy and report back. That won't be for a few months. The Company is located in Rapid City, South Dakota. I can easily stop by and have a look in February when I make a trip down to take my grandson through hunter saftely, if they take visitors.

I got a live person on the phone today. It's a new company. Brownell and Cabelas are selling the stocks. The man I talked to said the company is willing to make custom adjustments to any stock. I asked about a vist and he was more than willing. It's tentatively set for February, 18, tentatively because in this part of the country you never knew about the weather. Will check it out and report back.

Have looked at a couple of them at First Stop guns in Rapid City. They look like a nice quality wood stock with a full length aluminum bedding block.

What's the finished weight (roughly) of these stocks? What kind of walnut do they use? What grade of walnut? Hmm... Lots of questions! John

Made a trip to Colorado last week and stopped in Rapid City, South Dakota to check this out. Nice guys to talk to. Watched CNC machines cut the aluminum billets. I hefted several stocks, weight, about the same as a regular stock, maybe a tad lighter; finish, excellent. Wood from good to excellent. Checkering that I saw was flawless and a variety of styles and cut. I saw one stock with laser carving, great looking, if you are into that sort of thing. The plainest piece of wood looked great. They offer laminated stocks and a variety of others. I was interested in how they fit the aluminum billet into the stock. The fit is flawless and looks solid. The billet extends to the front sling stud. The stud actually goes through the aluminum. Solid indeed. The stock is pillar bedded from the get go. No part of the action touches wood. No possibility of shift due to moisture expansion and contraction. Barrel is free floated. Had a custom barrel put on my 270 WSM at Rocky Mountain Rifle Works in Colorado. Picked it up last week. Spent five days thinking about this new system and decided that I’m sold on it. Dropped the 270 Short off in Rapid City yesterday on the way back home to have have a stock fit to it. I’m sending them my Williams floor plate which they will cut into the stock using a wood CNC machine or something that does an excellent job with that sort of cutting. I picked English checkering after I saw it on one of their stocks. Neat and different. Details: Protostar is now Accurate Innovations. Jerry Thompson or Ben DeRuyter Mail: P.O.
