Who has worked with one of the new Winchester Model 70s produced at the FN plant in Columbia, S.C.? I've heard generally good things, but can't recall any specific accuracy workups.

Issue or two ago of American Rifleman re visited the "new" New Mod. 70's from S.C. and much more favorable than the previous reports in the same magazine. The first report stated that their barrels were "outsourced," but now they make their barrels in house and tout their quality control, finish, and so on. It was not long ago that others posted thier findings on the rifle and a search could bring that back up for you.

I have one of the New FN Model 70's in a Feathweight 7-08.
I scaled down some loads I have for 7x57's, and found two loads that shoot 3 shots into 1/2" groups at 100 yards. That was the quickest load developpment of any rifle I've owned, one range session. I used a 16x scope for load developing, and now have a Leupold VX3 in 1.5-5x hunting scope on it.
I LOVE the rifle. Its balance is superb. The trigger pull is a little on the heavy side as received from the factory, and that can be easily adjusted down to a lower pull weight. But, its break is OUTSTANDING, and no overtravel.

I have a new 30-06. Fit and finish are superb, haven't had a chance to work up loads yet.

I have a .300 Win Mag in featherweight. It shoots 3/4" groups with Federal 180 gr Triple shocks.
No need to work up a load, I have the one I want.

My .270 fwt is just fine....I still have load developement to do but the initial shooting I did is quite positive.....I'm fully expecting MOA or better....initial shooting was close to 1 1/8" and I haven't worked with it since.....

I have shot my .270 WSM Featherweight Deluxe enough to know it is a real keeper. Besides having drop dead georgous wood it really likes just about any weight bullet. Fit and finish is great, handeling is great. Good shooting.

I have a new extreme weather in a 308. First trip to sight in using Nosler factory loads results were sub 3/4" groups of 3 at 100 yds.

Love the rifle, shoots great, feels great, and has a great factory trigger.

Good Luck

I have a new Extreme Weather in 325 wsm. After about 60 rounds through it it shot three different groups under an inch with 180 TSX and RL 15. It can shoot! Smooth actiona dn safety. Love the feel and balance.

How does one tell the "new" Winchesters from the old? CDNN has Win Featherweights for sale but I don't know whether they are the new FNs or not.

Peter.

at least two ways

The new ones are marked on the barrel where they are made

Th new ones have a target type crown like the Brownings.....not like the former 11 deg of traditional Winchesters.

Thanks! What do the new ones cost? Who sells them? The ones at CDNN may be "original", they say something about "new find". Thought I might get one in 308. CDNN also has the Remington 798 in the same caliber. Decisions!
Peter.
