I took a SAKO .375 H&H several years and turned it into a .300 H&H. Used a same taper 24" HART SS barrel. Had a few stock problems but finally got it all sorted out with a Mc Millian sporter stock. I use 180 NP's exclusively over either IMR4831 or RL22. I get right at 3000 fps and it's worked very well on several elk and a few deer over the years.

A few years ago I was willed a like new pre 64 in .300 H&H with a 26" barrel. I've only shot it a few times but it NEEDS to be taken out and used. Problem is that it's TOO minty to take out.

A bullet I've used in both .300's is the 190 gr Hornady BTSP over good OLD H-4831. VERY accurate. A good bullet for deer too.

IMHO........If a 180-200 gr thirty caliber at 2800 to 3000 fps isn't ENOUGH gun then you either need to move closer or learn how to place your shots.

Well, I will be very soon. I just picked up a 300 H&H M70 Transitional to go with my 375 Transitional. Need to get some Talley rings, bases, and brass. Can't wait to shoot it.

(Sorry, as I don't mean to hijack this thread, had to tell some people who'd appreciate it...)

Forrest,

Thanks! Got it off of Auction Arms. The seller was local and I was able to pick it up after work today.

It's in pretty good shape other than missing the rear sight. I might get it re finished/blued, but as it's a shooter, I'll hold off a bit.

Well Sir, I think that is a mighty fine offer personally.

If I still owned my old 300, I would be on that like stink on a skunk.
I owned a modl.721 Rem in 300 H&H that I simply could not find a handload for. The Winchester factory fodder is ALL that gun would shoot under 3" at 100....and it would stack those Winchester factory loads up....one on top of the other!
It was expensive shooting for a newly retired GI, back in the 1980's, and I had to give her up because of that.

Steve,
Where did you find the Transitional in 300 HH? I'm glad you finally found one, but I'd like to have found it first.
