For those that have shot both the supergrade and standard, do you have any preference for one stock over the other from a shootability standpoint

Old model 70's are one on my favorite rifles. The factory stocks were not. They are ugly for one. I don't like the drop from the front of the reciever to the rear, it was Winchester being cheap when the designed it. Second issue with old Winchester stocks is the wood is soft, even in the best grades its still Amercian walnut, and not even good grades at that. In my opinion this is the main reason its so hard to find a real good old model 70, the only way to preserve the condition is serious babying them. Otherwise with a few years of field use they a beat to death. Now the good news, collectors will pay a lot more than they are worth for the originals, anytime somebody wants to buy my cast offs for top dollar its a good thing. Me its the first thing to go on a new (old) model 70, doesn't really cover the cost of restocking them, but its a darn good down payment on a blank. The supergrades have a little better grade of wood, nothing exceptional mind you, and one of these definately sells for a decent price in good condition. These stocks are definately overated. From a shooting standpoint they are just about even there is not much difference between them. My recommendation is save your dollars towards a good stock.
