All I'm wondering is if the imported mausers were all that well accepted by the public, why did Daly give them up????? Daly stumbled badly introducing them....Remington has stumbled badly with their Spartan venture and from the errors on their website at Remington I see them making the same fumbling with the Zastava product as Daly did. If Remington is serious here and works with Zastava in developing the product it could be a great deal for the gun buyers of the US. I don't really think Remington sees anything but a cash cow and has no understanding of what they have or it's potential. Frankly, I'm not optomistic. /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// "Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery." Vap dog makes some interesting point, I can't argue with with much of it. It seems remington does not yet understand that most hunters are prety much traditionalists. The web siet stuff on the mausers is prety silly. But on the other hand if they produce a good rifle more power to them. i wish you could get a barrel action, and i woul like to see it in a stock that looks like the CDL. I would also love on in mauser cartridges, 6.5X55 7X57 9.3X62. A lot of hunters like mausers...tj3006 freedom1st

I bought 2 of the CD actions. And I also bought a new Winchester M70 when the day the closing was anounced. (Classic Sporter). And I will tell all right now that teh Zastava-Charles Daly -Now Remington 798 is a MUCH higher quality action than the latest production run M70s. Both of my actions are very nice. I do wish they would offer the 3 position safety as a standard item. I added these to mine. If Remington plays it right .....they could walk right in and fill the void left by winchester & the junk they turned the M70 into.

Yes....that's what I meant saying "If Remington works with Zastava....." Add the three position safety, change the latch on the floorplate, add more meat to the front of the .375 H&H length actions behind the area where the bolt lugs engage, and make a round bolt handle instead of the flat bottom one they now have. I really wouldn't take much to fix this action up to the point that no one will miss the M-70 at all. /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// "Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery." Another good point with the magazine release button. It is functional.......but not real attractive. I am having Gary Stiles relocate mine into the trigger area, as it was with the the Mark Xs. Not a real hard thing to do. It would be nice if Remington did take these small details into account. A proactive approach. MAybe withe the custom shop? My actions cost me about $250 ea. An outstanding value in my book. Although I doubt Remington will ever offer actions. When you can build your own so to speak.......it is not that hard to absorb added coats to make things the way you want them. But having to buy the whole platform & then make these changes ups the cost by about $200. Which puts it around the walking retail price of the M70 Classics before the news of Winchesters demise came about. So it is still not that bad. I am sure most buyers will just opt to use the 798s as is.

What's so great about the three position safety on the Model 70. I prefer the Remington type myself however, I'm here with an open mind willing to learn. I guess I'll find out soon enough, being a Remington fan and have owned over fifteen plus Remington made guns. I went out and bought a M70 in a .458 WM pick it up this week. Steve

From a technical point the Model 70 safety locks the firing pin back so that the safe condition is independent of the trigger mechanism. It is more positive than just a trigger safety. The third position also locks the bolt which prevents the action form opening when crawling through thick brush. These things are more important for some hunting situations than others. Bottom line, you can take a 3 or 2 position safety anywhere while there are places you might rather leave a trigger safety at home. "Experience" is the only class you take where the exam comes before the lesson.

What i have allways liked about the 3 position model 70 type safty is that you can put the safty in the middle positon when playing with load depth. The rifle is on safe ,yet you can still chamber a round and then take it back uot all with the safty on. \ I don't insist on a 3 position but I like them...tj3006 freedom1st

All Remington needed to do is put a M70 safety, some decent sights and a classic stock and we'd overlook the floorplate latch. That would make a nice rifle, along with a .375-.458 with a barrel band swivel and crossbolts for a low budget safari rifle. A shot not taken is always a miss
