What was the penetration of the Accubonds? Perhaps compared to a Partition. I'm thinking of buying some of the Federal Accubond for Alaska, plains game, and local ogs. For DG, I plan to go with Federal 300 gr. Noslers backed up by the Federal 300 gr. Trophy Bonded Sledgehammer FMJ.

Redlander,

At 200yds the Accubonds penetrated 4 1/2 soaking wet phone books (which are 2 1/2" dry). The Barnes X's (250gr) went through 6. Closer range penetration wasn't any better and if anything it was worse especially with the Accubonds. The X's ended up about 1.5x diameter and typically lost its petals. The Accubonds were usually 2+x diameter and weighed about 60-70% of it's original weight.

We never tried the partitions but if you've shot one into a phone book you've seen enough. They always blow the front off, down to the partition, and retain around 60-70%. Almost every one I have tested looks exactly the same regardless of caliber.

Griz, I'm using 72.0gr. Varget, bbl. is 25" with freebored chamber. Haven't clocked it yet, but it's stepping out, for sure. Just noticed my primer pockets are a little loose compared to virgin brass, but then I've gotten 10-12 reloads from this batch (not with this specific load) so I guess it doesn't last forever! The two outer shots cut the first about halfway-- about a 3/4" group @ 100 yds.

I've tested the 160grNAB in my .280 against the NP in wet phone bokks. The NP penetrates about an inch deeper & the NAB expands a tiny bit more. Either is way ahead of a BT for penetration & both expand enough to insure quick kills.
