Just wanted to relate a positive experience I recently had with Sturm, Ruger, and Co. I bought a used and hard-to-find Ruger 77RS Mk II in 7x64. After test firing I noticed two problems; the extractor did not work and there was a small crack developing in the stock, right side, just above the trigger. After 8 rounds, I noticed the crack was lengthening. I emailed Ruger, sent the rifle in, and two weeks later got it back. Ruger had not only fixed the faulty extractor but had replaced the stock with a very nice piece of walnut. In return, I made a generous contribution to the NRA-ILA. Happy New Year and good shooting to everyone. NRA Life Member DRSS-Claflin Chapter Mannlicher Collectors Assn KCCA IAA

I don't own many of their firearms but the ones I own, they have been very first rate and taking care of issues.

A nice story, on two counts: (1) kudos to Ruger for excellent customer service, and (2) kudos to steyrsteve for expressing appreciation with a donation to help defend gun rights. Class acts by both parties. Well done!

I like Ruger rifles and the little manlichers in .308, 250-3000, 30-06 and 270 are awesome little carbines.. I believe the Ruger African model to be the finest rifle made by any company including the great Win. M-70..Its just nice and came in 9.3x62, 338, 375 Ruger, Win to name a couple..really nice slim wood, iron sights and scope rings. But alas the went and stuck a muzzle brake on it, I guess the dumb a__ bean counters at work again, where do they get these guys! and I know sales went soaring down. I agree with Ray completely. I own more Ruger rifles than any other brand, but I also own Dakotas, Winchesters, CZs and Remingtons. I like CRF, so I am selling all of my Remingtons. I love their African in the calibers Ray mentioned, 338, 9.3x62, and 375 Ruger; 7.75# with slim, trim stock, integral bases and the best open sights on a factory rifle IMHO. Much improved trigger as well. I was ready to buy the new African in 416 Ruger, and then they put on the muzzle brake. No sale. I am hoping that Ruger comes to their senses, and offers the African with or without the brake system(like the 'old style'). I would buy one as soon as it hit the streets.

Isn't the brake removeable? If so, doesn't seem too bad.

I was a real fan of Ruger in the '80s and '90s despite the issues I had with their QC and customer service. They finally really pissed me off with a 77-22 that shot 6 to 8 inch groups at 50 yards, I sent it back, they didn't fix it. The very unpleasant woman at Ruger I talked to several times about it would not even promise the gun would be fixed if I sent it back a second time at my expense. I sold it at a big loss and have bought very few Rugers since. Every time I get a notion to buy a Ruger I remember that 77-22 and almost always buy something else. I have heard they have improved their QC and CS, good thing too but too late for me. Suwannee Tim
