Hi all, I hope this is the appropriate forum for this question so here goes. I just bought my first 7mm-08 (rem. mod.7 w/ vari-x III 1.75-6xE) to add to the arsenal but am not overly familiar w/ the round. Been doing some digging on the forums and was impressed with the feedback on this cartridge, so I figured good nuff reason to get a new toy. Anyway, I'll be using this rig for deer hunting in the Va. mountains where the majority of my shots are up close and personal, but the occassional 150-250yd. shot does present itself. What I'm trying find out is, if I sight the gun in for the recommended long range trajectory = 0.0" @ 200 yds. for the 140gr. factory loads, what would the trajectory (POI) figures would look like at the shorter ranges (25, 50, 100yds etc.) For example, Winchesters long range balistics table for this round zeroed at 200 yds. only list the trajectory for 100 yds. as the shortest yardage. They do have the short range balistics table for the round as well, with 100 YD. ZERO, but that's a whole lot more drop between the 200 and 300 yd. ranges than when zeroed at 200 yds. I know this round has very good potential at its longer ranges and I'd like to utilize all of it, but for my hunting needs I need to know what it will do at the shorter ranges as well if I sight in at 200 yds. I know I can always just play w/ it at the shooting range, but I'm not a hand loader and w/ the price of factory ammo these days any wasted lead that I can keep from just flailing about will help. Would appreaciate any info you guy's might be able to provide. Safe shooting, Yankee Bill.

Yankee Bill, There is a point to mentioning that Marlin Sighting In Guide. It's that most high velocity scoped rifles sighed at 200 yards like yours are on at about 30 yards. So if someone should want to check his sights then just shoot something at 30 yards and you should be right on! Saves all that walking back and forth.
