Would this rifle make a good elk rifle, or is it to heavy, I have never hunted elk and plan on doing it. I was thinking 300 win mag.

It would be to heavy for me! I know a fellow that uses one and he likes it! I carry a tikka T3 lite in 300 win mag! Your the one that will be carrying it! Good choice of calibers!!! Buy it and then you will have a reason to buy another if you don't like it! Curly

I carry a sendero in 308 for deer hunting. About 12 pounds with scope, ammo and sling. I'm used to it after 30 years.

Too heavy IMO. I have two Senderos(SF and SFII) and they are great for punching paper or box stand hunting whitetails, but there's no way I'd want to carry it in elk country. My SF starts to pain the shoulder after about a 30 min walk. I hate switching shoulders while walking as I prefer my rifle on my right shoulder at all times. They get heavier and heavier the more you tote them.

I personally wouldn't want to tote a rifle in elk country that went over 8lbs total.

Great shooting rifles, but not much for long hikes.

I have the Sendero SF II and while I don't think it is to heavy, the stock is a varmint/benchrest style which would be great for hunting from a blind.

I hauled an older 700 PSS wearing a Springfield tactical scope around the swamp for ONE day. I thought about selling it to the next guy that walked by after about lunchtime. Well I guess I am contradicting myself as I am going to carry a Ruger #1 Tropical .416 Rigby this year LOL Big Grin. Hopefully put one down w/ authority. dancing

This past weekend, I hauled my 26" Sendero in 270 Winchester, with a Leupold 4.5X14, around the Conelo Hills in Southern Arizona, looking to shoot a long range White Tail. It is heavy to haul and it was work, but my complaint, would be if one had to take a quick off hand shot. If you can set up and take your shot as you choose, and you are in decent shape, I believe it would be ok to carry in for a long walk. I don't believe however, the Sendero is designed to be a walk about hunting rifle. It is a set up/stand/long range proposition, as fine a shooter as they come. I would look at my possible hunting situation, and then choose the shooting platform for that purpose.

I had a Sendero SF in 7mm Rem Mag, while I loved the rifle ad didn't find the weight too much, it used to drive me batty trying to turn itself muzzle down on the sling all the time. Ended up having it re-barrelled, saved 1.5 pounds and altered the balance considerably, wouldn't get rid of it now Smiler
