I have the opportunity to buy one of these rifles and was wondering how they stack up against the non-featherweights in terms of accuracy, reliability, handling, etc. I am aware of the reputation of the standard weight rifle and just wanted to get some opinions on the F before I take the plunge and become a Savage 99 addict, as I have been warned that this is the inevitable result when purchasing your first 99!!! Thanks, Bob

I am lucky enough to have my grandfather's 99F and my father's 99 (both .300 savage). The 99F is my favorite. It is a tack driver. The only thing is that it has no sling swivels. It is kind of cool to carry a rifle by hand all day. You really bond with it.

The 99F is one of my all time favorite, but there are several 99F's out there, depending on the years they were made....The 1950's 99F was one of Savages best, the other is the old and faithfull 99EG but it is a little heavy to some...I like both of these models better than the rest, they show the best workmanship of all the 99's.....The 50's F was made in 300, 308, 243 along with a few in 250-3000, 284 and 358.....the last 3 bringing premium prices in that configuration these days.
