Been using H4350 for 286's. Would like to work up loads for 300gr SAF's/320gr Woodleigh's. Any guidance would be appreciated. Bob

Hi Bob I do not have a very wide knowlege or experience base with American powders, but have used 65gr IMR 4064 behind 300gr Rhino bullets. Now load S 355, a newish South African powder, comparable to IMR 4064 and faster than H4350. Loads of up to 68gr were tried, but I also settled on 65gr, as it gives me the velocity I want, and is super accurate. (MV= 2400ft/sec.) VFR1 I have used 4350 with the 286 gr noslers but find it too bulky with the 293 gr TUG and 300 gr swift a-frame bullets.I have found the best accuracy and velocity with 4320. W760 would also be a good choice with the 320 gr. I used W760 with the 300 Swifts and while it grouped just fine the point of impact was approx 8 inches lower than the rest of the loads I use. Hope that helps

Thanks Guys. Those are relatively fast burners compared to 4350. Any opinion on RL15 with the 300's? ( I have a couple of lbs of this on the bench.) Max for this bullet in the 9.3x62 is 57gr. Seems that this would be a reasonable starting place to work up loads on the chrono. Have some 4320 also and will give it a try. Bob

The DEVA handbook cites powders like Vihtavuori N 160, Rottweil R 904 and Accurate 4350 for these heavy bullets. Carcabo -- "Those who sacrifice liberty for security deserve neither." A former AR member posted for the 320 grain Woodleigh; 65grains H4895 to a velocity of 2494 fps. However, he cautioned the usual caveat, that this is a maximum load in his rifle and that any other rifle should be loaded at 10% lower ie 58.5 grains and worked up from there, monitoring pressure signs as powder loads are increased. It's this sort of performance which leads one to realise that the 9.3x64 is an outstanding big game cartridge.

Thanks for the responses. This gives me a starting point for some buffalo loads. I have a .458, but like the idea of using the 9.3x64. A 320gr Woodleigh at 2500fps is certainly .375H&H territory although I have doubts about my rifle getting that kind of performance.
