I have owned a 270 win for years and knocked down alot of game 1 shot kills. I do not have any experience with the WSM's but at the range I had the pleasure of setting up beside a gentlemen that just purchased one in a T3. Beatiful rifle then he sqeezed the trigger, WOW lots of noise for a little guy. That is my only concern. Just my 2 cents. You don't have to be the best shot....Just the last shot.

I have both. It's like comparing the 30/06 and 300 win. The 270 will do anything you need on deer sized game. The 270 wsm will just do it at longer range. The 30/06 works just fine, 300 win just adds 100 yds to range. The 270 works just fine, the 270 wsm just adds 100 yds to range. With the mags, short or long, you lose one round in chamber. You shoot out barrel faster. Recoil is higher, blast is more. It might not be as new, but if you wanted short action, I would just go to the 308, lighter recoil than either of the 270s, and more accurate also. RC

I've used both and own a 270 WSM. Both are great the WSM recoil is higher but I like the extra punch and distance. I do have it in a tikka and it is very accurate but I think this is true of tikka in any Cal.
