Just found this, could be setup for just about any situation!

JarrodThat ruger scout rifle is a beauty compared to that Mossberg Lever Action. It looks like an AR and a lever action had an abortion.
A lot of times I will just say to each his own, but in this case the R&D department and their Engineers must have passed the Peace Pipe around one too many times when they come up with this idea.

I actually like the ruger. As a truck/ranch gun it would be pretty hard to beat! When it comes out in stainless I'm getting one.

AnjinI was talking to a friend in NM yesterday and he told me that all the young gun fanciers are interested in the "black guns," not the ones that he and I consider desirable -- and so sales of the former are making a big impression on the makers.
No doubt Mossberg is responding accordingly. Personally, I like the Ruger Scout too, but I see limited value in a tricked-up 30-30 Mossberg, other than for police use.
I wrote recently about meeting Jeff Cooper years ago when he came to Winnetke, Il to testify regarding the police chief's request for Uzis for his squad cars, following the Laurie Dann tragedy. the Colonel (and all the rest of us) thought that was a stupid idea.
He argued that the best choice for police in a suburban environment was a simple Model 94 lever action in 30-30, nimble, easily controlled and a moderate rifle cartridge.

You will not be disappointed with the RGR Scout.
We have on on the ranch with literally thousands of rounds thru it. Clients that take it for a spin are never disapointed. It is less than a MOA gun and good to 500 yds and beyond. One suggestion is to get a 5 rnd mag. Another is to remove the cage and attach a can. Again you will be more than pleased with the handy OAL and consistant accuracy with quality ammunition.

p dog shooterI like the idea of a flash hider and being able to mount a light on it. I would perfer a standard style stock in composite.
Again if you don't like it don't buy it.
Would be a better fighting gun then some worse then others. But sure beats nothing at all.

Having carried a patrol rifle since 1978.
When I worked as a deputy I could carry any rifle I wanted I used a Mini 14, a SP1 colt, a marlin 357 carbine and a 03 in 30-06 scout rifle. With the state patrol I carried a AR carbine.
If I would have had to use any of them they would have worked
A rifle that works and perfered with good optics
But any good fighting rifle is better then no rifle.
That all said I perfer a simi auto with a good scope of 1.5 to 5 x duplexs cross hair

FOOBARI would rather have a choice between two FUGLY rifles than no rifles at all...and beauty is in the eye of the beholder...lots of cross-eyed beholders out there.
Just like ALL the previous offerings from the gun makers, the public will vote with their pocketbools.
Seeing that stock and the other "garbage" on a lever gun jars the he** out of MY esthetic values, but not more so than a tricked out AR that many people get woodies over...and I have NO problems with the Ruger...looks kinda like a MIA or a Ruger Ranch Rifle that's been fiddled by its owner and ended up a bolt gun instead of a semi.
Yeah...and lifes too short to hunt with an ugly GUY...but we do it ALL the time.

AtkinsonThe best big bore lever guns going today IMO are the Win. mod. 95 Conversions..I have seen a couple in 9.3x62, 9.3x62/375 and the best yet is Judge Gs 405 with a long throat and it gets right there with a 450-400-3" with a 400 gr. bullet at 2000 FPS plus I am told. Now thats a big bore lever gun.

FOOBARThere are several leverguns that can be converted to several cartridges that will produce very high ballistics while keeping within safe pressure limits.
My switch barrel Marlin 336 will handle .473 and belted mag cases...AND larger cases/calibers and up into the 50 cal bore range using the RCM and WSM case...the Win 71 and 1886 are even better as they can handle the longer lengths of the 45-90 and 50-90 cases.
Everyone knows about the 50 Alaskan conversion in the Marlin 1895.
But a 30-30 "BIG BORE"....that"s an oxymoron if I ever heard one...and a "leveraction DGR" is another one, not to get a hoohaw going...that dog has been put to sleep already.
