FYI looked up the article again and the offending part that deformed on both Mauser 66 rifles making them inoperable was a small stop for the bolt sleeve. Both rifles were in 8x68S, the 7mmRM and 308W that I thought were in the Mausers were actually in a CZ Brno and Win70 rifle.

The 66 is a very nice gun and for a few years you could pick up a used one for good money...prices on used ones seem to have gone up in recent years. The action is slick but I still prefer the Sauer 200/202.

Craigster how about the stock below posted by Agusa? that one that has no white line and no angled forend tip..its as good as it can get considering its a 66 Mauser, maybe add an Ebony forend tip, and I would not want a cheek piece, get it as close as possible to a English bolt gun..I could make that work for a big bore caliber and I like claw mounts, they have the best return to zero of any mount I used.. Ray, Didn't you once have a Model 66 stocked by Gary Goudy? I have looked high and low for a photo of such a rifle, but so far have not been able to find it. The stock I posted a photo of comes about as close as I can remember to how the Goudy stock looked. Bill

. Picked up the rifle from the gunsmith last week. Topped her with a Swaro Z3 scope. Shooting RWS 187 grain factory rounds first three shots very close to a 3 hole clover pattern 9 cms below the bull and 4 to the left. Two sight adjustments and punching holes in the bulls eye. Think that I am going to like this rifle a lot! . "Up the ladders and down the snakes!"
