I'm not in the market, just curious if something I saw today was on par with the right pricing.

Guy had a pre-64 in 300H&H, I don't know that much but would say it was original other than the pad, which was installed pretty well. his tag was 1600, but he said he'd take 1200 (I wasn't asking, so that tells me he'd probably go even lower).

Is that about where they should be at?

I think so, assuming it was in very good condition or better.

Actions alone, when they can be found, are going for around $800-850 or so.

If I wanted another one, I'd have paid a grand for a clean one. Condition is everything these days. Even more so than caliber to collectors.

thanks guys, I wasn't in the market and if I were I wouldn't be in that price range myself, but only by asking can I know. That way if other friends ask me I have more educated answers. I didn't examen close but didn't loook like it had been buggered at all.

the price is outragous....but it's what the market bears today.

Have you checked out what a genuine, used but high quality Holland & Holland magazine rifle (bolt action) in .300 H&H or .375 H&H goes for today? It's in the $10K or more range.

The last three I bought were around $900 a few years ago.

The one nice thing about pre 64 300 H&H is that a lot had the "transition" look ie cloverleaf tang with 3 pos safety.
