I am hoping to pick up a .338 Winchester Ruger No. 1S from a friend, but would like to shoot it first. Anyone have recommendations for accurate factory loads that they have had good luck with? My experince with No. 1's is that they will generally shoot 1-1/2" 3-shot groups with decent factory ammo. Dave

I have shot a lot of different factory loads in this, my favourite cartridge over some 36+ yrs. I have owned, shot and loaded for 12 different rifles so chambered and have kept 5 of these. The single most accurate factory loads I have ever shot are the Federal Premium-not HE-TBBCs-225 gr. These shoot under .75" in my Dakota 76; the HE Nosler 250 PTs are also very good, but, not as accurate as the Trophies. I consider the 250 Nosler to be the best bullet available in this cartridge, especially the Gold Partition Moly Free; if you handload with Win. brass, Magnum primers and RE-22, it really rocks!

No correct answer for that question, as it depends on the guns barrel harmonics is as good an answer as I can come up with, that is why certain handloads are better than others..but that said I have had my best accuracy with Federal premium ammo, probably because the use Sierra bullets.
