Hey Ray if you have not aready seen this, over on Gunsamerica.com under the Mauser section there is a " African Mauser" in 9.3x62 that looks like the one you had at the Dallas SC year befor last. Guy wants close to 3,000$ for it. What do you think good deal or not? Do you think the price is right little high little low?

That rifle is not a Mauser "African" model, it is just a pre-war custom mauser. Since it is not a collector's item, the price is definitely too high. You would have to examine carefully for condition and function to determine its actual value.

I don't think I saw that one, but If Kurt says it is too high thats good enough for me...Kurt is very well informed on these old guns and there values...

It will not say "Simson & Co, Suhl" on it.

It will not be drilled and tapped with current EAW mounts on it, either.

Mauser double triggers will have a gracefull hook at the bottom of the front trigger. There are a lot of subtle characteristics of the pre-war commercial mausers such as that.
There are also a lot of custom rifles from the same time period. These too, are nice, but they were usually made on WWI surplus actions. Head space, heat treatment, etc, all come into question on the custom rifles. One would have to be stone mint and engraved for it to be worth $3K. An nice original African in 9.3 would certainly be worth it. They were made from 1908 to WWI, I believe.

The gun I had at SCI, was a J.P. Sauer single C ring action, oct. barrel full rib double set triggered gun...I just restocked it as the original was broke in half...I stayed pretty much to the original Obendorf stock design with a little less drop and just a tad strighter, kept the bull sack grip and panals...I sure liked that gun..It just felt good and was a great caliber. My whoring ways and greed for money let it get away, like most of my guns do...
