I'm interested in what you think of these rifles? I'm looking at a .338-06 in the Jackson Hunter as an alternative to building one. I like the looks of the Jackson Hunter and the Excalibur the best but the only rifle I can find in stock is the Jackson.

Among others I have the model 52, Jackson Game in 25-06. Of the Cooper stock styles, the Jackson is my favorite. I happen to prefer wood stocks to synthetic, but have considered buying an Excalibur stock for my model 52.
They are excellent shooters. My only complaint, and it is minor, is the way the single stack detachable clip has to be loaded. The cartridge has to be slid in from the front of the magazine. It cannot be pushed straight down.
I do believe both First Stop, Michi-Gun and Cove Creek Outifitters stock the various iterations of the Excalibur and Jackson rifles. You can find them on Gunbroker and/or google them and call them direct.

First Stop posts on Guns America. Mark there is the best...I wouldn't call anywhere else.

I prefer wood stocks as well but I'm wanting a rough service rifle to chase elk and take to Alaska from time to time. I know I can do it with wood stock but I'm thinking a synthetic is the way to go this time.

Doubledon has a Cooper in 280, I believe. PM him for his thoughts.

Mine is not exactly a "safe queen", but I don't know that I want to use it chasing elk up and down the side of a mountain in the snow, or a week in the Alaska bush.

IIRC Michi-Gun had a run of Excaliburs that they had had the action and barrell Cerra-Koted. I've been thinking about getting the Cerra-Koted Excalibur in either a 338-06, or a 6.5 X 284.

I have the 6.5 x 284 in a Cooper, model 22 Montana Varminter, and it is both a looker and a shooter.

I have the M52 Jackson Game (wood stock) in 6.5-284 and the M21 Montana Varminter in 221 FB. Both are spectacular. I can see myself parting away with a couple other rifles to be replaced with Coopers.

I'm partial to wood too but the Jackson Hunter with stainless would be a very nice rig for harsh conditions.

I have the M 56 Excalibur in 257 WM. I like Synthetic stocks, as I'm not afraid to hunt with ithem, Cooper wood is too Damn pretty to beat up.

This is my new favorite rifle, its well balanced, and "feels" good in my hands, the bolt has a short throw and is glass smooth. Accuracy is unreal, as you would expect.

It's the only rifle that I own that didn't need a thing right out of the box, imo that made it worth the price right there.
