My first Mauser build was on a commercial M48 sized action. It started life as a Waffen Frankonia rifle in .308 I paid $400 for at a gun show. I could not get it to shoot well no matter what I tried including a Bold trigger and bedding the action. So I had E.R. Shaw re barrel it with a 26 inch varmint weight .257AI chrome molly barrel. They also trued the action and bolt face and lapped the lugs. I then bought a heavy varmint stock from Richards Microfit finished the inletting and glass bed the action. It still need final stock shaping and finishing and blued but I have been shooting it and get sub MOA with it. When it is done I will have close to $1000 in it. Second build was on a K98 action I paid $150 for 25 years ago. It already had a Timney trigger and the bolt had been reworked very well. I installed an Adams and Bennett barrel and chambered it to .308 with a borrowed reamer. A friend had all the needed tools to do the job. We lapped the barrel into the action, lapped the lugs and dropped it into a Houge Overmolded stock after I painted it with guncoat. Total cost was about $425 and it shoots under an inch at 100 yards. And yes I plan to build another someday. Molon Labe New account for Jacobite

Thanks for the info Donald, $1000.00 isn't bad at all for a build. I have stock rifles i paid almost double that. Do you have any photos of your builds? I'd be interested in seeing them.

Here is a thread where I posted pics of a Mauser I may use as a donor for a build and a pic of the .308 I just built. No pics of the .257AI. Maybe if it is ever really finished. Link Molon Labe New account for Jacobite

Thats not a bad .308 you built. Do they make the Gunkote in grey do you know? I'll have to check that out. I may go with a stainless barrel when i build mine.
