I'm using the factory rings that came with the rifle and they are plenty high. I've heard of other companies making after-market rings for the 550, but haven't tried any.
Any suggestions as to which rings would work best? Scope I am using is a small 1.5-4.5x20 Swift.
I just did a search on Brownell's and found "Lynx" rings made by B-Square. I've used these rings on a BRNO 611 .22 mag rifle, but not on a center-fire. Ever hear of 'em?
I bought the low B-Square Lynx rings for my 9.3x62 and am very happy with them. They are a perfect match for the Sightron 1.5x6x42 I put on it. They are nicely finished and are very affordable to boot. Don't think you'd be disappointed with them.
I had the CZ rings and although they are solid as a rock, they are heavy as one as well. However, that aside, I do believe that if you contact CZ-USA you might be able to get some medium height rings. In other words, CZ makes rings of different height. I could be wrong as hell on this too. I replaced my CZ rings with Talley's on my CZ 550 American in 7x57mm. They too, are rock solid and they look good too. The downside it, they seem pricy, but maybe that is just me. Hell, a set of CZs go for $50 or there abouts. The fellow (Swamp) on HuntAmerica.com sells Talley's as a side business I think. That is where I got mine from and was pleased with the service I got. Tom Purdom
