Has anyone tried these, what powders and velocities were you getting? I'm thinking of taking this as a backup to my 35 whelen on my elk hunt this year. It's a remington 700 classic so I can probably load pretty hot. I've already ordered some 185 grain corelockts for hog hunting around here but need a better bullet for this hunt. I'm hoping for a complete pass through and to flatten trajectory a little bit. Any help is appreciated. Straight shootin to ya

Well, if you try a load of about 43 grains or so of RL 7... and work it up at about 47 to 47.5 grains.... you WILL be surprised at the velocity you can get... This is referring to the 180 grain TSX!!!!! This is assumption of loading the cartridge in a long action with a throat that will take a bullet seated to magazine length..... RL 7 and 4198 can really make the 8 x 57 with lighter bullets Rock and Roll!

In MY rifle, 50 grs with Vithavuori N-140, the 180grs Barnes XFB gives me 2800 fps with no preassure issues, 24" barrel, original Husquarna. Bent Fossdal Reiso 5685 Uggdal Norway

I should be able to answer this since I have three 8x57's. Still I'm not sure. I've found that in my mauser sporter a 150 gr. hornady shoots the best and in my 8mm drilling and 8mm double rifle I use the 196 gr. RWS .318 bullet because that's about all I can get for them. They all work well but I haven't gotten the heaveir bullets to shoot as well out of my Mauser DRSS NRA life AK Master Guide 124

I do not how far away you shoot game, so this may be of no value. Using original Barnes 180 grain with 48 grains IMR 4064 and CCI 200 primers I get around 2600f/s. This combo will kill lots of things easily. Go to the Norma website and you can compare bullet wts and velocities of every load recommended to you on their ballistics program, then look at the resultant trajectories and draw your own conclusions.

I always liked the Hornady 170 interlock RN bullet in this caliber. Never had one stop in a game animal and they were very accurate & deadly. Don't recall the load offhand, but you can push em pretty fast. "You can lead a horticulture, ... but you can't make 'er think" Florida Gardener

My last deer of the season last year was a fat doe shot at 165 yds with a 200 gr accubond. It was a DRT with a nice golf ball sized exit. I'm using 51.7 gr IMR4350 OAL 3.20. I know one thing: It is one BAD A$$ looking round. If looks could kill! Weagle

Elk? I would use a Nosler. Either the 200-grain Partition, or the 200-grain Accubond. Both are suitable. I have never used the TSX, but assume it would be good also, if equually accurate in your rifle. I have always had excellent accuracy results with the 8mm Noslers, however. I'll try the barnes first(they shoot really well in my 35 whelen), if they don't shoot well I'll give the partitions a try. The 185 gr. corelokts are doing 1" with 48grs. of BLC-2(worked up in my rifle) but I haven't checked velocity yet. 300 yds. is my limit on shooting at game since I don't have much shooting experience past that. This is a backup, I'm just getting my ducks in a row. Straight shootin to ya
