Hello everyone! I need help in finding .277 diameter full metal jacket/solid bullets. Barnes’ website states that the BATF has placed a moratorium on the sale of their Banded Solid bullets because they are classified as “armor piercing” bullets. I’ve checked the other bullet manufacturers without success. I would have suspected that the 6.8 SPC would have spawned a number of FMJ bullets. Do you have any suggestions! Good hunting, Jim

Those ammunition companies that load for the Scandanavian market do, or have done, make normal lead core FMJ bullets for the 270 WCF. Sako did, don't know if they still do, and Norma also do. Both are 130 grain weights I believe.

Swaged solids are a very real choice especially since you can also make the jackets thicker making them even tougher.

[quote]Barnes’ website states that the BATF has placed a moratorium on the sale of their Banded Solid bullets because they are classified as “armor piercing” bullets. As a short aside and sorry to take this opportunity to point out. The Batf is investigating the AP potential of all bullets. Buy them if you can find 'em. If it does turn out that this takes place at least the lead ban on bullets in California will be null and void according to the note made by the governor when he signed the bill. Thank you all! I did find .277 FMJ bullets at Norma but they are not exported to the U.S. Norma USA is trying to get a box for me. I read "armor piercing" as the "cop killer bullets" of years past. We may have a problem if BATF figures out that most any rifle bullet will penetrate soft body armor. They may try to ban them all. Obama will support that! Good hunting, Jim

The Norma bullets are for the continental Europe "Jagd Match" where hunters shoot a target competition on animal silhouette targets on a normal target range. And, as many target ranges in Europe are military, and don't allow expanding bullets...so the hunters shooting the competition have to use FMJ bullets. Hence these Norma bullets. They also do a 123 grain 8mm for the same purpose. Looks like a .30 Mi Carbine bullet bumped up to .323". In fact I think that you coud with a proper arbor press and a tapered die maybe bum UP (never down but always UP) 6.5mm jacketed military bullets to .277"?

I had also tried to get loaded FMJ ammo for my .270 & .270WSM, to use on smaller mammals in Zimbabwe but could not find anything in the US. Let me know if Norma will import any? Thanks.
