Sauer also made drillings with 30.06 for the rifle barrel under two 12 gauge barrels.

I have a Browning Continental which is an O/U and it shoots superbly, especially after some expert input from the forum members.

Unless you plan to shoot it a lot you should not have any problems. The main problems with rimless or high pressure and the weak levers for extraction.

If the lever springs break or the levers bend you will not be able to extract the cartridge. If the pressure is too high you will put the rifle off the face.

I would worry more about the extractors than the pressure on a '06 but, if you are buying new, why not a 30 Blaser?

I don't know for sure but I would guess US$10,000 or so for a new Heym in a light caliber. A used small bore SXS in a 303, 7x57R and 9.3x74R can probably be bought for something between US$5000-7000.

The market is really light on these type of rifles but they take as much or more work as the big bores.

Here is a 303 Watson Bros I paid $5200 for.

Here is a 9.3x74R Francotte that I paid $4500 for. With 1.5x6 Ziess. Smiler

I have a Heym O/U with a .30/'06 under a 20 ga. In addition, it came with a set of 12 ga. shotgun barrels that interchange with the 20-.30/'06. The .30/'06 barrel's extractor system works just fine! The O/U Heym I have (M55/77) sells for about $10,000 US today, and the extra set of 12 ga barrels goes for about $5,000.00 US.

Wowwwwwwww!!!
Mickey, when I dream about chasing pigs with a double I do it with something like your 303.
BEATIFUL!!!!!!!!!!!!

Man, imagine a sunny day, sitting under a tree, enjoying the view with a beauty like that at your side, listening the dogs barking in the deepness of the bush and dreaming that for one time in your life, the big ol' male will choose to escape the same sendero that goes near your tree....

Ah, that's life eh?

I am still working up something for the 303. i have taken the 9.3 to Africa a few times and shot Kudu, Zebra, R Hartebeast, Wart Hog, Impala, Gemsbok, and probably a couple of other things.

On one occasion I did a perfect 1-2 on two running Zebra, tumbling both with neck shots at about 50 yards. Quite cool as the somersaulted in unison. A Double is the best type of gun for shooting at running game. I'm taking it to CZ Rep and Slovakia in Dec for driven game.

The 303 weighs 7.5 lbs and the 9.3 weighs 6.5 and 7.5/scope.

I know you will all scoff but remington will market one under the name spartan in supposedly the third quarter this year for under $600. It fits my poor college kid budget and just may tide me over till i can afford a real one.

I recently acquired a Krieghoff Classic in 30-06. Took a lot of trade bait, but it eventually went home with me.

Couldn't be happier. It shoots factory Remington Premium 180 Swift A Frames into a 2" group at 100 yards from shooting sticks. It's going to Africa with me on May 30th for Springbuck, Wildebeast, and a few others that may come into its sights.

Plan on working up a 220 gr Woodleigh soft nose load for it to supplement the 180s.

It's not an older english gun, however it's trim, weight is about perfect, made with modern metals & technology and fits me well. It also dosen't violate the rule of never shooting a cartridge that's younger than I am.

Good Luck

Have owned prewar Westleys in '06 and .318 they worked OK but I did not use them extensively. Note that WR extractors take a much bigger bite of the cartridge rim than most of the moderns.

With three rifles to trade in to boot. It will be interesting to see how this rifle shoots to 100yds.

Thought I should update my earlier post regarding my Krieghoff Classic .30-06 and recent African hunting experience.

I could not be happier with its performance on the 9 animals I took over 12 days of hunting. I never expected to, however I took a white springbuck at 210 meters (lasered after the fact)with one shot. Zebra at 100 (one shot), ostrich at 200 (again lasered after the fact, and several others from teenie weenies to Blue Wildebeast and Kudu at various ranges from 45-125 yards.

Overall accuracy, penetration, and performance were excellent on each animal.

Found that only once did I need the second barrel when I shot over a Steenbuck at 30 yards. Darn things are really small.

Also shot several jackels at both close and long range. That was some fun calling them in.

Initially I had my reservations about a double in rimless caliber. My range work and now field experience has made me a firm believer. I'm even selling some left handed bolt rifles to pay for a new set of 9.3x74 barrels for my rifle. (Lefties, check the classifieds)

Regards
