I have a Lux that went to Africa last year and my experience is the same as CraigP. Everything I shot died -right now.
I mounted a Burris Safari 1.75-5 with a tapered post and crosshair. I can't tell you how much I like that reticle. Just put the post on the spot and pull the trigger. It's the fastest target aquisition I ever had. The new Burris is brighter than the old and a better scope. (The Burris scopes just got an "Attaboy" in the new issue of Rifle.)
The rifle has become my favorite because I can do anything with it except shoot tree rats or PD's.

My present 9.3x62 is a Brno Mod. 22M, it weighs about 9 lbs with a 4X Leupold in Talley QD mounts, a very light gun, but recoil is very tolerable...I get 2520 FPS with a 286 gr. Nosler and a good dose of H414 or RL-15 and a good 2650 FPS with a 250 gr. Barnes X, and 2800 with a GS customs 230 gr. bullet ..I also get near 2400 with a 320 gr. Woodleigh..It is also a great Buffalo gun with GS flat nose solids...

Me and the 9.3x62 go back a long ways to when as a kid, I bought and old Mauser war relic in that caliber and slayed deer and elk with that old gun without any problems what so ever, since that time, I shot a number of Cape Buffalo and all sorts of other stuff with good results...It seems to me to have the full capability of the great old 375 H&H, and that certainly isn't light praise..

I'd have to rate it right up there with my favorites, the 375, 404 Jefferys, 416 Rem..Not in power, just in "my favorite calibers"

Craig,

I have a 2-7x33 leupold on my lux cz 9.3 in warne fixed mounts. I would ideally like a 1-4 leupold but I had the 2-7 spare and really could not justify the expense for my "ideal" scope.

My 550 Lux in this caliber has an old Redfield 1x-4x with post/crosshair reticle and metric adjustment turrets. A very fine medium-large game reticle, and the magnification suits the uses I put the rifle to.

I may have it D&T'd for a receiver sight--I just like shooting iron sights, but aging eyes require aperture sights. I do have scoped rifles--but have yet to take a deer with one. All deer have fallen to iron-sighted rifles and handguns to date.

I have one of the Nikon 30mm 1.5-6x scopes in mine, I guess the rifle might weigh 9 pounds. My 15 year old son shoots it well with 286 Noslers at 2415 fps. I haven't shot one for a while, but it doesn't seem much different than a .30-06.

I have his rifle and I love it. I nearly had to sell it a short while back, a very ugly scenario. I used it to kill several feral cattle and a feral hog, most with shots inside 30 yards. Nothing went more than 15-20 feet, and I saw some truly impressive die-on-the-way-to-the-ground kills with the Nosler Partition at about 2,300 fps. There are problems with the bolt on some of them, but if you search the Big Bore board for the term "C-clip," you'll see the fix. Once you have that handled, I really don't think you can go wrong with this combination if you're shooting at reasonable ranges. Hope this helps, Okie John.

Okie John,

I have had my c-clips fixed with what the smith said is a better fix than a second nut...kind of complicated but it utilises the c-clip in a deepr groove and then recessing it back into the fireinpin assembly so it cant possible pop out as it is surrounded snugly by a ring of steel. I do not know I f I have described it properly but when you see it it is quite ingenious.

Well my CZ550 9.3x62 has just gone back to the importer for him to have a look at. The bolt would bind periodically on the rearward stroke if you cycled it too fast. I really hope they can sort it out as I love the rifle otherwise. The metal work and the wood to metal fit is comparable to far more expensive rifles and the stock design and recoil pad manage the recoil extremely well, far better than I expected.

I would be interested if the people with a CZ550 American in 9.3x62 could check to see if it has a free floating barrel or not..It seems some do and some don't..

Regards,

Pete

Mine is pretty new and my c-clip is recessed into the pin assy., so I couldn't see what everyone was so excited about. My opinion was that mine couldn't come out as it is comletely recessed, so I didn't touch it. Possibly they have already made a change.
