I like both cartridges and both would get the job done, but I'm also a fan of the shorter rifles especially if you're hunting from a treestand. I personally would opt for the 7-08 since it's overall length is 40.5" versus the .270's overall length of 42.75" in this particular rifle. It's also a tad lighter.

If your heart is set on a Finnlight, which has a 20 inch barrel, then get one in 7mm-08. It will be pleasant to shoot, will do most things a 270 does with less recoil and without the flash bang wallop.

I have both 270 and 7-08. I don't think you can go wrong with either but if I had to choose between the two and I was going with a light short barreled rifle, I would probably opt for the 7mm-08. I have numerous rifles in various chamberings. Consequently I usually develop a specific load for a specific rifle. If I was going to have one rifle to do many things, I would also choose the 7-08 due to the range of bullet weights. With the 7-08 you can go from 100 gr. to 175 gr. My go to in the 7-08 is 140 gr. Accubonds. I've killed numerous hogs, axis, white-tail deer, turkey and javelina with mine and it has always been up to the task. Just my $.02 GWB
