James, welcome to AR.

There are a lot of options when looking for a 'nice piece of wood' for your rifle. There are several SUPERIOR stockmakers who frequent the forums here, and they would be a great place to start. Lead time can be quite long, and the cost can get up there, but man there's nothing like a sweet piece of wood you picked turned into a stock for a rifle you like by a real craftsman.

Another option is to purchase a semi-inletted stock, and do the fit and finish yourself--but it ain't that easy, and it IS easy to get poor results! There are a lot of places to pick a blank, Dressels comes to mind, plus one of my favorite options is the vertically laminated stocks from Serengeti, I have a few and they are great, plus just gorgeous. If you do an internet search, you will find a lot of options on the blank for sure.......

Maybe some of our stockmakers will reply, they are a talented bunch.

Good Luck--Don

Forget the wood, dude. Get a McMillan composite in urban camo for that sucker.....It looks killer and is much better in the weather for accuracy. Not to mention, much lighter.

You can sometimes find Weatherby stocks on either gunbroker or gunsamerica in new or very nice condition for a reasonable cost. Most of these are take offs when someone went to a glass stock, which is not a bad idea either.

Interboat, no reason to respond, I looked at your past posts and I can see that you are a crotchity old geezer, or sure act like one.....You seem to have strong opinions as I, but still respond like a child that had his toy taken on the play ground. Don't respond to my posts unless you have something useful to say.

There is an ebay seller to watch: gas_n_matches

This guy is ALWAYS selling weatherby takeoff stocks.
No, I have no connection to him but I liked the remington stock a friend bought from him.

You never said whether or not it was a Vanguard or a Mark V (or maybe a Mauser). I'm assuming this is a Mark V, however if its a Vanguard, there is a gentlemen selling factory 2nd Vanguard stocks on ebay for around $65 and they're worth every penny. I snagged one for a S&W 1500 that I have that had a cracked stock and it looks great. It does have a couple of flaws, i.e. you can tell why it's a 2nd, but it's still a nice piece of wood for $65.
