Dutch- for me it just seems to duplicate so many other cartridges. It's main purpose is to make the retrofit for the M-16.

I grew up with two custom Mausers in 250 & 300 Savage and then at 15 got my first 30.06.

Being former military and from a military family I stay in the military cartridges because I like to be able to shoot cheap surplus ball for plinkin.

If the military adapts/accepts the 6.8 then I get another "surplus" cartridge to plink

At present I shoot .223, .243, .308 & 30.06 and feel like I've got it covered. My favorite Texas hunting cartridge is the .308 with a 150grn in it.

I haven't gotten one yet but I really have the "WANTS !!"

The 6.8 has it's intended purpose (intermediate range tactical round), but should do very well in two other applications: plinking/target, and short to medium light big game.

To me, the 6.8 SPC duplicates the 7/30 Waters. For woods hunting applications, with the 110 gr. Barnes TSX that is coming out, it's a great little deer/small hog/coyote wacker. JMO, Dutch.

Capt, I've got one of those in Whelen. Always have wanted to whack a piggie with it. Maybe this winter.

The 6.8, to me, would fill the role of the essentially defunct 250Sav, 7/30Waters, 25/35, and the like. A great little carry rifle round, or great youngster cartridge.

All the hoopla out there is on these new monster-pressure vat-sized cases that put a muzzle burn on any animal shot within 50 paces. That's all nifty, neat, jazzy and WOW, and all, (I have my share of them) but what we are SHORT on is mild, inexpensive, medium pressure, "every day" rounds. The 6.5 Grendel, the 6.8SPC, 30/30, etc. fit that bill for me.

It's easy for hand loaders to just down load their "big" rifle, but fewer and fewer shooters roll their own. FWIW, Dutch.
