Guys, I was just looking at the pictures of Speer's new "Deep Curl" bullets. I have to say that the expanded Deep Curl bullets look exactly like the expanded Woodleigh RN bullets that I have tested at the range in wet phone books. I think Speer just borrowed Woodleigh's design. And I have to say that Woodleigh borrowed it from someone else. Who cares where it came from, having a choice of vendors for bullets suitable for varying applications is great. BTW, Honda borrowed the idea of the automobile from Ford...... ;^) .

I recently loaded some of the DEEPCURL 50 cal's for a friends 500 S&W. He recovered a few that he said looked damn good. I only got him these because the price was right.

I don't know why but I just ordered some 225 grainers in 338. I already have more 338 bullets than I can shoot but I just couldn't help it.

If they work as well as the Woodlieghs then Speer did something smart. I don't buy hotcores. I would buy the "Deep Curls" if I needed a game bullet and they are fairly priced. I love the way the Woodlieghs work and stocked up on them in .308 180's and .338 250's.

Some suggest that Speer's 'Deep Curl' bullet (new for 2010) may in fact be the same or very similar bullet to the Fusion bullet of Federal, introduced in 2005. It's made by electrochemically plating the jacket to the core rather than a hotcore process. Speer varies the jacket thickness according to the cartridge in question. In theory it means that bullet imbalance is no longer an issue. The claim iro the Fusion bullet is that it was specifically made for deer hunting. The 'Deep Curl' bullet will be competing with a host of other bond-core bullets and time will tell how they stack up in terminal performance. The deep curl seems to imply that it's designed to open up widely. It is available from 6 mm to .338 caliber. Go here to read what Speer has to say: http://www.speer-bullets.com/w...new/newproducts.aspx Would love to see some bullets retrieved from Game. The Trophy Bonded Bear Claw is still Speer's elite bullet, now nickel-plated to reduce fouling in the barrel and with some grooves cut into the shank. Warrior

Is Speer trying to replace the TBBC with these bullets? Has anyone noticed that TBBC are no longer shown as component bullets on the speer web site and it seems for now they are only offered in fedreal factory ammo. I have experience on Buffalo with several different bullets in 375 dia and the TBBC for me are the best I have used. I will be out hunting down some factory ammo as it seems this is the end of the TBBC. If anyone has more info on this it would be good to no. Maybe these deep curl bullets are great and if they perform like woodlieghs then its possible. I met Jack Carter at Safari Club in 1997 and spent some time talking to him, his passion was to build the best possible bullet not make money. It might be possible that profit is more important than passion with the people at speer.

Originally, Federal was going to release Fusion bullets and the Trophy Tip and Trophy Claw distributed as Federal components. The deepcurl is made by the same process as the Fusion only with a flat base. The strategy appeared like the deepcurls would compliment the Fusion offering generally in weights not available for the fusion (heavy for caliber). Other than a few brass offerings, Federal has not done anything to move forward on components. In fact, they have taken off any information about offering components on the Fusion or Federal website. It makes me think they maybe rethinking their strategy about expanding a Federal component brand. Seems like it would be easier just to offer them from Speer. Just my 2 cents.

Hey Bwana, I think Federal and Speer are owned by the same folks now days. So it would make sense to let Speer offer the various Bullets and Federal the Loaded ammo.

Naw, they wouldn't do anything like that. Paul B.

Yep. Federal did seem to make a big deal about offering components a little over a year ago. Maybe they had a change of heart. Kind of like Nitrex optics.
