Hi everyone, I hunt a variet of game here in Australia, and often when I am out in the bush I come across various animals from rabbits and foxes up to big goats, pigs and kangaroos, I have even come across deer as well. My question is, can someone give me some load data for 270 winchester using 90 grain, 130 grain and 150 grain projectiles Cheers beefa_007@hotmail.com Beefa270: Yes I really love my 270win

Beefa, First welcome to the forum... As far as load data, are you looking for full power loads or looking for downloaded ammo. I recently did some testing with 90 grainers and SR 4759 powder from IMR. These are reduced recoil loads, I also have some reload data developed for the 110 and 130 grainers using blue dot shot gun powder. The scope of these is the reduced recoil for varmints and higher volume of shooting without the barrel heating up as fast.... with th 90 grainers. The other three were to make a deer load that was good for 200 to 250 yds, with the otherwise same criteria. Cheers & good shooting seafire

I likE AA3100 powder in my Remington BDL .270, and I use 58.5 grains behind a 150 Grain Speer GS, 60 grains behind the 130 GS, and 62 grains behind a 100- grain Hornady spire point. (Accurate arms recommends you NOT use magnum primers, and I don't...) All these are "full-tilt" loads. They all shoot to the same point of impact, and they are all one--hole loads at 100 yards if I do my part. I need to add, though, that my rifle is throated long, and these loads shoot wonderfully well with no signs of pressure. Your rifle may be considerably different, so start low and work up.

AAs Magpro is proving to be an excellent powder for the 130 and 150 grainers, delivering 3234 and 3000 fps respectively with 65.0 and 61.5 grain charges. Start at 58.5 and 55.4 grains and work up.

I had a 270 a few years ago and found Sierra 90gr HP loaded wth AR2209 worked very well on goats and rabbits. "Never in the field of human conflict was so much owed by so many to so few." Sir Winston Churchill

Beffa I shoot pretty much 130 140 &150 grain bullets in my .270's in most cases you wont see a difference I first swore by the 150 then 140 and now have settled on the 130 grainers. I honestly cant tell the difference on killing power on them. And the traj is so close that unless I am shooting for groups at longer distances, they all hit the same place.I shoot the same powder all the time and only vary the grains to compensate.I shoot IMR4350 in all and start the 130 with 56.5-57.0 and only drop 1 grain per 10 grains of bullet weight. That is what my model 70 allows. My loads for the Barnes 180's is 56 gr. IMR 4831 With 130's I am using 58 gr. H4831 I often used up to 60 grains of the old surplus powders but they are no longer readily available. I can't find my data for the 90's but I really found it an awesome bullet to use for rabbits and squirrels. Frank

And as you'll most likely be using ADI powders, here's their Handloaders' Guide site. AR2209 will do for all of those weights, or you could use say 2208 for light bullets and 2209 for heavy. Cheers, Doug

Beefa, I've just been doing some load development for a "new" .270 Win (Winchester pre 64 M70 fwt just arrived from the US).I found that the powder for my rifle is ADI AR2209 (equivalent to H4350). The bullets so far are Hornady 130gr Spire flat base (stock # 2730) and 140gr SPBT. Both shoot around ½" to ¾" 3 shot groups @ 100 yards in my 40 plus year old rifle. The 130grs shot a 0.261" 3 shot group last Friday. see the following post http://www.hunters-hut.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=194&po...storder=asc&start=30 Haven't done any work with 150 gr bullets yet. That's next Only accurate rifles are interesting

I always have had a fondness for 60.0 of H4831 and any of the 130 gr. bullets, particularly the Hornady spire point. Nothing new or fancy, but it works for me. Telly
