Looking at buying a Browning 30-06 bolt action, made in 1968 with the FN Mauser action. Any opinions in these old brownings and the Mauser action they come with? Do they have the claw extractor? Any thoughts on these old Browning rifles? Thanks.

i have a safari grade in 270 from around that era, and i love it! that's what got me into mausers. had it restocked a few years ago but am now afraid to take it out of the safe. they are CRF with claw extractor. NRA Life Member Gun Control - A theory espoused by some monumentally stupid people; who claim to believe, against all logic and common sense, that a violent predator who ignores the laws prohibiting them from robbing, raping, kidnapping, torturing and killing their fellow human beings will obey a law telling them that they cannot own a gun.

Horrible things. Buy one, first thing you know, you'll have a dozen. Leave the damn thing where it is. Worse than bloody drugs.

Some of the later models used the short extractor action. Also, check for "salt wood". It is usually evident, but removing the buttplate screws to check for corrosion will quickly tell you if you have one of the stocks made from blanks once stored in a salt mine. These FN Brownings actually don't have a reputation for knife-edge accuracy, but they are classic and beautiful guns. If it's in good shape, buy it.
