I picked up one of the new Winchester stainless rifles with a camo stock in 300 WSM about a year ago. I took it on an elk hunt and have used it in south Texas. I scoped it with a Swarovski 3X9X36 1". With Leupold two piece, rear extension bases I had to use the rear extension toward the front to move the scope forward for correct eye relief.

I've been shooting just factory ammo and have not loaded for it yet. The most accurate load so far has been the Federal 180gr. Trophy bonded. I've only shot one hog with it so far. I was surprised that the Trophy bonded bullet expanded almost 4 times the diameter.....very dead hog though.

I like the new synthetic stock configuration. Very trim and user friendly and the rifle has a nice weight for a "magnum" caliber. Not a light weight rifle but it's not as heavy as the current factory 300 winchester magnums. I would think the new 325wsm would be a popular rifle for the elk hunters.

What's your impression of these new wsm's?...handload suggestions..etc? I like mine alot.

Savage,
I just rechambered several cases from Federal 180gr noslers, Winchester ballistic silvertip 150gr, and Winchester 180gr power points. All factory loads. All rechambered... a snug, tight fit but no problem.
I also tried rechambering a few fired factory cases in my 300 win mag. I have some Federal Premium Safari 180gr partition that will not chamber.

I like mine, it's an honest sub MOA shooter with Hornady 165 and 180 interlocks right out of the box. Everything (including fired cases) chambers and ejects fine. But it shouldn't have any quality control problems, it's a Savage.

Good. That was a trick question to see how round your chamber is. I like the WSM's. Kind of wish I got a 300 WSM but now maybe a 325 WSM

I have a Browning BAR in 300WSM and I love it. It is very accurate. My best load for accuracy and velocity is 71gr of Ramshot Hunter , 165gr Nosler Partition, Fed.215 primers. avg vel 3150fps, sub MOA. I have also had good accuracy loads with MagPro but, my velocities were quite low and it is kind of a pain to work with.

I used some of the partition ammmo in my 300RUM 1000yd light gun,..and after one firing,..the primer pockets were loose. Partition loads I have found from the factory to be too hot of you have a good TIGHT chamber. YMMV

Sendero, I like those camo stainless steel Model 70's a lot.
My dad has one in the 7WSM and has killed a truck load of hogs with his. A buddy has one in 270 WSM and has killed several hogs and an antelope. I just got through working up loads for another buddy that has one in 300WSM. All of them are nice handy rifles.

The 300 WSM that I just worked with shot really well. The first day I took it to the range I shot six groups with various loads using Sierra 180 grain Pro Hunter bullets. Only ONE of them was over an inch! This in a brand new rifle!

The owner really wanted to shoot Nosler Partitions in it so I worked up loads with the 180 Nosler as well. I settled on a load of 68 grains of IMR 4831 behind the 180 Nosler and used the Fed 215M primer. In this rifle the velocity averaged 3052 fps and the groups averaged an even inch.

Winchester has a winner in the WSM line of cartridges. I have to admit that I am less than impressed with the WSSM cartridges though. The 223 WSSM rifle I had would not hardly shoot worth a damn and the 243 and 25 caliber versions just do not impress me much.

In regard to the Federal ammo with the Trophy Bonded ammo, that is great stuff. I have a friend who used that type of ammo in his .338 RUM to shoot a nice brown bear in Alaska.
He recovered the bullet after it penetrated several FEET of bear and it is picture perfect. The mushroom is great and the weight retention is amazing.

Sendero - I have a Win SS 300WSM that has performed well in the 4 years I have owned it. I have never had any problems with feeding or ejecting, had my gunsmith adjust the trigger to 2.5#s, threw away the black factory stock and replaced it with one from HS Precision. I shoot factory 180gr Failsafes, groups an honest inch, and usually only use it once each year in New Mexico for elk. The rifle/bullet combination has cleanly killed every elk I have been after. Can't ask for more than that from a firearm.

With respect to the WSM and other short mags, a friend of mine owns a gun shop told me the other day that Rem is discountinuing their SAUM line (all 3 calibers) and Win will be dropping the 7mmWSM in the very near future. All due to poor sales. Go figure!
