About like any magnum 7 mag as I see it, not much better than a .270 win. as to trajectory, but a better hammer when it hits way out yonder with a 175 gr. bullet.. As to West Texas, I was raised out yonder right next to the Big Bend Park, as I recall most if not all ranchers used a 25-35, 30-30, 250 or 300 Savages as did all my rather extensive ranching family, including second cousins once removed, or the gun nut cowboy element of the family who later on went to the .270 and 30-06s. They all did well, success was rate was at least 100%. The deer populations were awesome and still are..My personal favorite mt. rifle for those rimrock horse back hunts has always been the 30-06 or a 250-3000 mod. 99 in those parts, therefore Pilgrim you will do well with your 7STW. Your success will turn out to be with shots at 200 to 300 yards I would bet as most of the really big mule deer won't get out of their beds until you kick them up right under your feet. I need to quit buying "good deal" rifles and start doing more hunting besides just the regular whitetail and hog hunting I've been doing...I have a rifle to fill almost every niche...and could probably sell them all and just keep my 338 or 30/06 and do everything I'd want to hunt...but what is the fun in that "Let me start off with two words: Made in America" | |||
