How much does your CZ weigh ?

Just got curious as to how much my CZ 550 weighed . CZ says that the basic rifle weighs 7.25 lbs. I doubt it . I weighed the stock since I had it off for remodeling . Even though it's pared down quite a bit it must be very dense wood . It weighed 2.56 lbs. The scoped action weighed 6.62 lbs. Wasn't convenient to take the scope off at the time , but it's a Nikon Monarch 2-7 with Talley mounts . That's 9.18 lbs all up . Even with a light synthetic stock (1 lb.) it would go almost 8lbs. , but I don't want one . Do you think I have a particularly dense and heavy stock ? What does yours weigh ? What does a sporterized mauser weigh ? Your comments appreciated .

What caliber is your rifle?

My 9,3x62 American fitted with a 2.5-8x Leupold weighs 9 pounds. The 416 Rigby CZ with the Lux stock and a 1.5-5 Leupold IR scope weighs 11 pounds and a smidge.

I just finished a .458 AR Mauser using a Parker-Hale action, a heavy contour 22" Douglas barrel, CZ.24 bottom metal, and a Fajen's synthetic stock. I loaded it's stock to yield a final weight of 10 pounds.

Am doing a VZ.24 in 9,3x62 as an all weather rifle in another cheap Fajen's stock. I am projecting a weight of 8.5 pounds with scope for it.

My rifle is a .270 . Probably a little more metal in the barrel than your 9.3 due to the bore size .

Ken: I own a CZ 550 American in 7x57mm. It has been refinished and glass bedded. All up, with a Leupold 4x12x40 scope and Talley Rings, it tips the scales at 9 pounds and 2 ounces. As I am disabled, it is for stand hunting anyway. By the way, welcome to the forum Ken. How does your CZ shoot? Tom Purdom

I'd be interested to know a little more about those 7.75 lb CZ's SD Hunter .Does the .270 fs have the CZ stock and barrel ? Tom my CZ routinely gives me three shots under an inch . I'm working on remodeling the stock for a second time right now . Haven't bedded it yet . Love it , even though it's a bit heavy . Handles much nicer with the stock slimmed down .

The FS is factory from CZ. It shoots great. I don't plan on doing anything else to it. The 20" factory barrel does bark pretty good though.

All of these rifle weights are sans scopes.

I also have a CZ 550 Magnum Lux in 416 Rigby at Marc Stokeld's getting a pretty good rework. I don't know what the final weight will be. But it should come out a little lighter than the magnum weight posted above.

Marc PM'd me and said it should be done in the next couple of weeks. Maybe he can chime in here with the weight. Or I can post when I get the rifle back.

The 338-06 is going to get a fine tuning in the future, but I have a couple projects ahead of it. I like it the way it is, but it could stand a little refinement.

I have become a pretty big fan of CZ's. I feel they are the best CRF rifle out there for the money at this time. As is, they are serviceable and very functional, but can be turned into very nice rifles.

The only drawback (if you can consider it a drawback) for CZ's, is the weight IMO. They are a little heavier than most. If you are super concerned about weight, then I feel Kimber is the way to go for current production CRF rifles.

Ken: I went overboard with my CZ 550. It replaced a Ruger Mark II I had in 7x57mm. When the rifle arrived at the FFL dealer I noticed that I could barely see figure beneath the elephant snot CZ uses as a finish. As a matter of routine I glassbed my rifles when I get them, and this one was no exception. I glassbedded it, then stripped the elephant snot off the rifle and found there was indeed, figure in that Turkish Walnut furniture. I refinished the stock in GB Lindspeed Oil in a process which took about two months all up. I then had a gunsmith polish the bolt handle to the bright nickle hiding under the black finish and also I had him jewell the bolt in a small herringbone pattern. I topped it with Talley Rings and a Leupold 4x12 scope. I already knew the rifle was a shooter. I'm glad to hear your's puts three on the money as well. Tom Purdom

Tom , glad to hear about your rifle . I discovered the same thing regarding the wood hiding under that awful factory finish . It's really a great looking piece of walnut . I used about twenty coats of BenMatte (tung oil). Mine was the premium model so the bolt was jewelled already . I'm inspired by the pics I just saw of the 8x57 BRNO . Since I'm remodeling I may pick up some ideas . -Ken
