Friday evening I had the pleasure of having supper with a Burma Valley physician whose family was "dispossessed" of their farm in Zimbabwe. I told them of my recent trip and the anarchy evident, etc. After a tear or two and a good glass of South African wine, the kind fellow took me upstairs to his "gun room" and produced a Westley Richards single-shot rifle in .400/350. Even though somewhat beat-up, it was a beauty full of character. It seems that my friend's father had made a horesback treck from Mombassa to Bulawayo to Durban in the 1900's with this rifle in his hand. I imagine it has some stories to tell. The gun is still a shooter and "needs" to do some more adventures... Where can we get some ammo?

Westley Richards has 400/350 ammunition. It is made in Germany by Wolfgang Romey; I think Romey makes the Krieghoff ammunition as well. I wrote to Kynoch about a year ago and was told they don't often make 400/350; still, you should contact them as well. Brass, bullets, and dies are available if you reload. Modern reloaders of the old N.E. rounds report Reloder-15 to be the best substitute for cordite.
