You might also do a search here and in the reloading section on the 9.3x62. You'll find a wealth of information. It's a great, Yeoman cartridge. Get's the job done with no fuss, no muss, no excessive blast or recoil, and no silly belt, all while fitting a standard length action and carrying 5 in the magazine.

I have a chance to buy a CZ 550 in 9.3x62. The gun has an exceptional piece of wood on it. I know the cartridge is used in Africa a lot. Any opinions on it? >John

Quote: The CZ is a good reliable firearm and the calibre will do almost anything anywhere in the world. In North America you could use that anywhere for anything. North Fork has a 250 grain bullet weight for that calibre I wouldn't mind trying myself. Hard to go wrong.

Hi Guys Seems like we can start a 9,3x62 fan club ! I own a CZ 550 lux and shoot 250gr BX,300gr Swift,286gr Nosler Partition. All of these bullets do not have cannelures which results in the bullets being pushed back into the case (while in the mag) after firing a round.Any suggestions on how to prevent this from happening ?

Flip, Are you back in Namibia? A while back you said you would like my 300 H&H brass. We are staying the night of 21 September at the Heinitzburg and having dinner that evening at Joe's. Will be leaving the country on the 30th. My primary rifle will be a 9.3x64, so I should have some 300 H&H left over. 180gr Woodlieghs over 67gr of 4350. Bob

Dear Crazyjjk The biggest poll about ammo happened two years ago. The 9.3x62 won all down the range. It's not the most used (third best), but ten thousands of data prove it's the best all-round ammo ranging in Europ from roe-deer (30Lbs) to stag (300lbs)dressed. No kick, no hyper-speed, an acceptable penetration, an indisputable stopping power, large bloodtrail, the best game-retrieving. Everywhere in France, we can call for a blood-hound for free. The fraternity of blood-hound owners, who are keeping accurate and precious tabs, recommends the 9.3x62 and no other ammo. About CZ, no more congratulations to add : a little rough, but efficient in every conditions : underwater, desert, swamps, snow, ....a pity it wasn't tried on the moon. . I have got trouble dealing with abuffalo but it was not 9.3x62 fault but a bad bullet's option. Friendly

I'll second the opinons posted here -- rifle and cartridge are both superb. I shot several feral cattle with one last summer and they died on their way to the ground. The 270-gr. Speer semi-spitzers are OK for practice, but keep them around 2,200 fps (or stick to Partitions) for larger animals. Some early 550 Americans have a C-clip that retains the firing pin spring instead of the usual CZ-type knurled nut. I know from experience that this clip WILL fail, but CZ USA will set it up properly for free if you send them the rifle. PM me if you have questions. Okie John

Hi KUdu It seems we realy can start a club, there is a lott of 9.3x62 fans over here, I have a Brno Zkk 600 in 9.3x62, it works great, I already have it for 10 years and love it, strange i have never had that problem with the bullets, the soft nose bullets just tend to go flat, like realy flat if they are down there for long, but they did not go in, I have not realy seen it even with the barnes X bullet, OPM reloaded some 286 grain X and RWS H mantels, they worked great and no such problems, the 286 x was doing 2360 fps and the H mantels 2550 fps, even the Sako 250 grain X did not do it, that is a great load, I have never recoverd a bullet from the load and only 1 from the 286 load. What type of die where you using, I used Hornady dies. What loads do you use, South African powder or some other, I suspect RSA powder because the other is a bit hard to get hold of, I have not reloaded a lott for my 9.3 the gun is getting a face lift, so will get it back about 2 months time, I used S335, which gave very high velocity in my rifle, the below max 53 grams gave 2350 out of my gun with a Normal 286 grain bullet, 54 gives 2400 with a 270 grane speer bulet, the PMP factory load give 2400 fps over in my rifle, don't know why, the barrel is gone be cut to 22 inches so maybe the velocity will come down, I have a 338 so I realy don't want the velocity in my 9.3 Cheers Flip

Flip I use RCBS dies and was thinking along the lines of maybe somehow reducing the expander ball diameter by .001 inch. I use Somchem S335 powder with the following results: -52gr (286gr bullet) = 2350fs -49,5gr (300gr bullet) = 2270fs -51gr (250gr BX) = 2330fs Can push the 250gr BX to a higher velocity but at the cost of accuracy. PMP's latest batches are all crimped!

To all thanks for the help. I already own a couple of CZ's and am very pleased with their product and service. As for the 9.3X62 thanks for the input. It's easy to read articles about a cartridge but you never know if the author is biased by outside reasons. Here all the posts pretty much sums up what I thought about the cartridge. Thanks, looks like a new CZ is going into the gunsafe.>John
