My pick would be a Tikka T3- I own two of them I have previously owned ruger, Rememington and Brno rifles and can honestly say that they did not perform anywhere near as well as my Tikka. I like the adjustable trigger on the Tikka, mine is nice and crisp. I took a mate up to our rifle range yesterday- his Ruger has a crap trigger and cannot be adjusted- only gunsmithed I believe. It seems that Americans like to stick to American products- would that be fair?

I believe that is a very fair statement. Probably most folks are partial to their home grown products. One of the biggest problems with US rifles is the liability-proofing built into most mass produced hunting guns. This is starting to change little by little. Witness Remington dropping the j-lock and the barrel "warning" address. That being said I once won a Ruger .338 online. My first Ruger M77mk2 had a heavy but crisp trigger...and shot very very well. The little Stevens I have currently is a non accu-trigger model but is user adjustable for weight and overtravel. Very likeable and inexpensive little modular .308.
