I need some imput as to which aftermarket trigger to put in my new 673. I've seen reviews on the Timney trigger and some say it was a drop in situation and others said, No, it needed some work by a gunsmith to work well. The same was said about the Basix trigger. What is your opinion or does the standard Remington trigger have the ability to be massaged to the point where it is the equal or close to the equal of the above. P.S. I'm not interested in spending the money that either a Shilen or Jewell requires. Thanks in advance.

I was able to get the stock Remington trigger on my 673 down to 3.5 pounds with no problem.

I have Timney's on my 03A3, Heym, and FN Mauser actions and I am perfectly satisfied. But Jewell's are cream of the crop.

Hello,
I do a lot of "tuning" on Rem. triggers and not always, but usually the std. trigger can be adjusted to a safe yet manageable weight of pull and lack of creep. I find that the std. Rem. trigger can be adjusted down to a two pound let off range and yet does not let go with a stout bump of the rifle or repeated slamming of the bolt. I would not suggest that pull for sporting rifle, but to each his own. There are various "sites" on the web that can advise on how to adjust the Rem. trigger and not normally a difficult job once you get rid of the "glue" they put on top of the adjustment screws. Good Luck.

The Remington factory trigger can SAFELY, and reliably be taken down to a one pound pull weight. Some will go 14oz. Unless you want to lighter than one pound, there is no need for an aftermaket trigger.

a gunsmith told me a few years back, rem put in heavier springs into the newer rifles, if so a spring change would be all needed to get to a lower weight. I think there may be truth to what I was told as I had an older 700 down around 18 ounces I believe, and not been able to go quite that low on newer actions.

This is only an opinion, but that is what you asked for, right?

If you do not want to spend the money on a Shilen or Jewell, just have a competent gunsmith adjust your stock Remington trigger.

I have plenty of aftermarket triggers. I have Jewell triggers, Rifle Basix triggers, Mike Dewey triggers, Bond triple lever triggers, etc. BUT, ALL my HUNTING rifles have stock Remington or Winchester triggers that have been adjusted, either by a gunsmith or myself.
