Can't think of 1 thing wrong with mine I took off that piece of shit scope that came on it & put a real one on & it kills every thing I shoot at from 50 to 450 yds. Many 5 or so shot groups in the bulls eye that I could cover with a beer cap.
The later models are supposed to at least function, unlike some of the earlier production. It may shoot, and may even shoot well, who knows?.
There are three categories of guns: Those that will grow in value, those that will hold their value, and those that will never be worth more than the day you walked out of the store with them. The 710 belongs in the last category.
Most 710 purchasers are looking for something inexpensive because they are new to hunting and don't want to make a big investment in case hunting doesn't work out for them. Financially, they would be better off to buy something like a 700 synthetic, which would cost them less in "depreciation" if they decided to sell it a few months later.

I'd rather take the same money, go to a gunshow or a quality gun shop, and invest in an older, used Model 700 in excellent condition. The money would be better-spent any way you care to look at it...........
I have fired two 710's and while accuracy was not bad,the actions were so rough that I had to take the rifle off my shoulder to cycle the bolt.I would loook at the stevens or just about any other economy rifle instead.

Take a good look at the Savage/Stevens 200. Should be able to buy one for about $279. They just had a test article in the NRA magazine and the one they had was shooting 5 shot 3/4" groups. I'm ordering one soon and will upgrade it with a custom trigger and recoil pad later and think I'm gonna have one heck of a nice 6.5# rifle with a total investment of about $365!

I think it's putrid..................if thats your budget buy a Ruger there around the same price and are a tough rugged rifle that feels like a rifle.

Id definately go with the Stevens made by Savage and it will cost you much less than the 710. You will have a good Savage 110 action and accuracy that is reputable. I actually heard that on the 710 the receiver is nothing but some kind of a plastic or polymere with a steel sleeve to give it its strength. That don't seem like the kind of rifle if you call it that , that i ever want anything to do with. It might shoot well but what do you really have??? My 5 year old son has play guns that are probably stronger than that. If that gun does breakdown, and your behind the trigger, what is the outcome???

Thanks for the replies, after I posted this question I did some checking and had already decided to get a Savage or another Mod. 700. Like an idiot I gave my .270 Mod. 700 to my son a couple of years ago and have regretted it ever since.
Thanks

I think I will just use my nasty looking NEF 45-70 and my Encore pistol in the same caliber. They shoot great and nothing in Ok. is going to run off after a good hit from either one.
Thanks

Right on the money. Seems it's been that way since they moved from New York to North Carolina. Quality is a big reason I've switched to Savage bolt rifles. If it wasn't for the 7600, I'd probably pass on a current model Remington.

I wouldn't want one personally because it simply doesn't fit my needs. However, for the guy who only hunts once or twice a year and has other interests that take up much of his time the model 710 seems okay. It's a rifle designed for a specific task, not for reloading, bench rest shooting, or woodchuck hunting. If you want to take your deer without a lot of hoopla or preparation this might be a good choice. Just one mans opinion. Best wishes.
My take on it is like Cal's. I personally wouldn't own one (or any other Remington for that matter). But for the guy who's not a rifle afficionado, the guy who simply wants his rifle to go bang when he pulls the trigger and send a bullet downrange fairly close to where he's aiming, then it probably serves a purpose.
A friend of mine who's a lawyer owns one. Now this guy could own just about any rifle he wants, but he's just not interested in rifles like the rest of us. The 710 serves him just fine.

But a Ruger would cost you near the same money and you would ahve a REAL rifle and tough and many desireable features...............despite what many think about Rugers.

I have a 710, paid $210 for it. Shoots good groups with factory ammo and kills deer, or at least it did for the 2 guys who I loaned it to last year. It ain't pretty, it ain't light, it ain't sophisticated, but it is better than whatever rifle you're shooting, if your rifle won't put the bullets where you put the intersection of the duplex. I did give away the scope and rings that came with it, replacing them with a Nikon ProStaff 2-7x in Weaver rings.

Well, if i had to choose an economy rifle it would be savage i own one and its terrific. But i also found a new win m70 in 30-06 for $300 in a wal-mart. Sold it at mark down to get shelf space.
Well polish my balls and serve me a milkshake!

I just ordered a savage/stevens. I've read two magazine articles and both had 1" and under groups. I ordered a 300 win mag. I figure a 6.5# piller bedded rifle with a good past reputation....and good current reports....for $279 is a DEAL. I can download it easily to a 308/30-06 for close up shooting here in the brush and take it back up to win mag performance for "out west" or "up north" hunting. I will post if I came out a winner or loser after owning it. If it needs it I already found a great replacement trigger and recoil pad for about $90.
I didn't do it cause I'm cheap.....I love an "underdog" and hope I can get my little bargain rifle to shoot some "wallet groups".
PS our local gunshop said the word is out on these rifles---people are ordering 'em like crazy.

You can't buy a "better" piece of garbage--at any price than the 710. If you are patient and watch the sales at Wal-Mart, you can pic up a Weatherby vanguard (Howa action) for around 250 bucks. jorge

FWIW. I was in my local gunshop Monday. Someone came in with a broken 710. The gunsmith says they do not stock them because they have to be sent back to Remington when they break and they break a lot. This gentleman dropped his out of his treestand and broke the back cover off the bolt. I think you would be better served to get a used CZ or Interarms something. That remy looks like a piece of junk.
